So, I was wondering what is your favorite country to vacation in, and why.

I used to live oversees with my family(in Africa and Asia) and got to do quite a bit of traveling for vacations. I couldn't for several years because I didn't have the money. But now, I take a trip once a year out of the country, and I'm already thinking about spring break.

I like a laid-back atmosphere with not a lot of people, but 4 or 5 star beautiful resorts on the beach. I have went to about 6 spots in the Caribbean (in Jamaica, Dominican republic, Mexico, Belize), but my favorite spot of them all was in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, about 30 minutes south of Cancun. We had the best vacation of our lives there, the staff at the hotel treated my daughter and I like queens.

So where was your favorite vacation?

I have been to Canada, Mexico and several European Countries. I lived in Germany for 2 years. My favorite place is Braunshorn, the small village I lived in the first year I was in Germany. The people were wonderful to my children and I and treated us like family.

I'm not into resorts, etc. I prefer little out of the way places where I'm as much a novelty to the residents as they are to me :) My best vaction EVER is when I took my then 15 year old daugher on a 2 week trek from Michigan to Miami, then on a cruise to Mexico, and back up north via some really back roads. That was 6 years ago and we still talk about the great time we had and how close we got!

I love to travel!! I wanna eventually see the whole of the world (but that wont be until my honey comes home). So far ive been to the U.S., Canada, Jamaica, St. Lucia, France, Zante (Greece), Sapin, Portugal, Malta, Tenerife, Italy, Tunisia and Morocco.

For resorts, i loved Malta.
For treking and being independant, i loved Jamaica (although i hear that the All-Inclusives are fantastic there).

I would love to travel to Asia. I would love to visit Hong Kong or Tailand.

We spent a week in Hong Kong, it was exciting, but WAY too packed and crowded for my taste. I don't know how much has changed there since it when back to Chinese rule, I heard not much.

My favorite place in Asia was India. So much beauty, history, and the people are so nice. I was only in Bangkok a few days, we never got out of the city, but the people there were very friendly and nice. I would also love to go back there to check out the beeches. It's my opinion that when you are in a predominately Buddhist country, the people there are very welcoming.

I try to stay away from the all-inclusive because they are so huge. I like the smaller resorts (less than 200 rooms) where you can get to know people.

Has anyone ever been to Costa Rica?

Venice- where in Jamaica did you stay? We were in Ochos Rios, we had a blast but I didn't think the beeches there were great. I hear Negril is the place to go.

I've traveled throughout Canada seeing that I used to live in NY...so close.

I've been to Cozumel and the Cayman Islands. I loved the Caymans. The beaches are beautiful. The people were so warm and friendly there too.

I LOVE The Bahamas. I stayed on the island of Nassau. The beaches are marvelous. I love The Atlantis (best resort on the island)! The resort has the most amazing aquarium inside that I have ever seen in my life and trust me I have seen quite a few. I love aquariums.

My two dream vacations are to Austrailia and Bermuda. I'm sure that I'll get to Bermuda first seeing that it is so much closer. I am dying to see the pink sand beaches of Bermuda.

I've been to most of the European countries, to the US and Canada, to Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cuba, Saint Martin, Saint Barth, Saint Lucia, Marie Galante, Les Saintes in the Carribean, Thailand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Maldives islands in Asia, Saudi Arabia and Dubai in the Middle East, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia in Northern Africa, Senegal, Ivory coast, Burkina Fasso, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Djibouti in Africa, Argentina in South America and Reunion island and Mauritius in the Indian ocean.

My best holidays were in Sri Lanka, the people are just wonderful and so welcoming, and the landscapes are gorgeous.

For diving and beach holidays, the Maldives islands are the best of the best, the cristal clear water is breathtaking.

I spent a semester studying in London so I did a little bit of traveling while there. Ireland, Scotland, France, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Whales, I've also taken a few trips to Mexico and been all over the U.S.

Amsterdam was...fun
But Benidorm, Costa Blanca Spain was amazing, I spent my spring break there and even though we were surrounded by a lot of old people I had an amazing time! The water and beaches were beautiful, the people were beyond nice, and everything was extremely inexpensive.
My dream trip is an African safari or a trip to Australia

I have been to Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Haiti, Grand Caman Islands, Barbados, Cuba, Australia.

My favorite place Australia, without any reservations. Bar none, it has to be the best spot in the world because of the wonderful people living there. You will never find more courteous, polite people. No one is rude to you. They will bend over backward to help you.

I long to go back there. I was only there for 10 days, but I loved every second of it after the jet lag wore off of course.

It is a beautiful country and we did get to go to quite a few cities however not all. I would like to go back and visit the northern part. We stayed mainly in the southern part. Maybe some of you Aussies will know it - a small town called Rosebud, it is south of Melbourne.

Has anyone ever been to Costa Rica?

We've been to Costa Rica 3 times & would go back in a hearbeat!:yay:
In fact We're sending my son & his new bride to Costa Rica for their Honeymoon. They want to go in December when it's cold where they live & not the rainy season in Costa Rica.

They are going to stay a week in Playa Tambor and 4 days at the Arenal Volcano Observatory Lodge. They are going to spend another 2 days in San Jose (the first & last days).

It is such a beautiful country!

Im from Australia and the best place Ive been on holidays apart from here that is was Vanuatu. A lovely island with the friendliest people I have ever come accross, seeing "white" people is a novelty for the tribes and they are very welcoming. Went and stayed on the island of Tanna and climb up the top of Mt Yasar the active volcano there. UN BLOODY BELIEVABLE@!!!!! Will be going back every 5 years to renew our wedding vows. Slept in a bambo hut with no running water, ate whatever was cooked by the village cook, shared technology of digital cameras with the little children on the island - you should have seen the looks on their faces to see themselves on the screen of a camera!!!! FANTASTIC@!!!!!!

My first time out of the U.S.:yay: was to Playa del Carmen, MX, for my sister's wedding back in March. Absolutely gourgeous!!! After the wedding, I went solo to Cozumel and stayed at a quiet, peaceful B&B in a family neighborhood several blocks off the main square. Didn't want to leave. Felt safer there at night than I do in my "cozy" small southwest Colorado mountain town I live in.
Hope Hurricane Dean headed their way doesn't destroy it. I'm thinking tonight about the people I met while I was there. Locals are very friendly. Careful swimming on the east side of the island or you will get sweeped out to Cuba with the undertow and rip tides.
It's amazing how the Mayan ruins have withstood histories of hurricanes yet entire neighborhoods today will get destroyed with each passing storm.

Countries I have been to: Well I don't know whether to include Wales or Scotland, because well its all part of the UK.. France (way to many times to be bothered to count), Germany (5 times), Belgum (3 times I think), The netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Iceland, luxembourg, spain ( twice), Sri lanka, Argentina and paraguay (but that was briefly). I'd like to think I have gone to many countries and I'm not even 20!

Argentina was by far the most amazing, 18 of my friends no parents!. Anyways we spent some time trekking in the Andes (way too difficult to describe so I'll just say AMAZING!), canoing for a while which was awesome because you got to see a lot of wildlife actually in the wild instead of a zoo, and working in an orphanage and school , plus seeing the sights of course. The people are really nice and for obvious reasons will bend over backwards for foreigners, plus everything is dirt cheap.

Even though I have spent years working in Africa and Europe, at this point my favorite place to vacation is my own backyard. Now that I have a permanent for now backyard and have started to sprout roots, I kind of like my house for vacation. Of course anywhere with my husband would be great. Visit days are like mental mini-vacations.

I was going to come in here and say how awesome Oz is!! :) It is a pretty amazing place. You can drive a few hours, be at the beach, drive sometimes only an hour and be in a rainforest or the mountains etc. And yes we are nice people!! :)

I lived in Sicily, Italy for a year and a half when my ex-husband was in the Navy.

Such a wonderfully beautiful place. If he wasn't such an a** I would've loved to live there longer!
