Hi everybody my name is Leonda and I'm new here to Prison Talk. I am a 20yr old female from VA. I'm currently engaged to the love of my life, who is currently in prison. He has five more years left of his sentence (10yr sentence).
We met in 1996. I was wondering how the prison system works as far as marriage in the facilities. Is anyone currently engaged and planning on getting married in the prison or someone who already got married in the prison? Should I wait unti he gets out? I welcome any questions or answers. I wanted to say welcome to PrisonTalk!! I am also engaged to a man in prison, but we aren't planning on getting married until he gets out (it gets a little complicated with us, because he is not incarcerated under his legal name...) :)
As others have said, there are women here who have gotten married or are planning to... they will be by with some info!!

When I got married, my husband was in his 9th year of a life + 50-year sentence, and we knew that he might never come home. We went ahead and got married after a 4-year "courtship" because we realized we might never have an opportunity to get married on the outside. If he had been within 5 - or even 10 - years of parole when we fell in love, there's NO doubt about it: We would have waited until he came home.

Since I'm old enough to be the mother of a 20-year-old, I'm about to sound like it. I don't see any reason why you need to rush into this. Believe me, dear, five years will pass so quickly you won't know where they went. It takes most people 4-5 years to get a college degree, so you can see that 5 years is really not THAT long to wait for something. From experience, I can tell you that having a boyfriend in prison is much easier than having a husband in prison.

If you do decide to go ahead and get married, check with the prison to see what their rules are. Here in N.C., different prisons have different ways of handling marriage requests. We found that we had to have the State's permission to marry before our marriage would be legal, even if we met all the requirements for "normal" marriages. Sometimes the warden has to give permission as well, and some wardens absolutely refuse to allow marriages to take place in their prisons.

FIRST LET ME SAY WELCOME AND CONGRATS. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE ADVICE TO CHECK WITH THE PRISON EVERYONE HAS THERE OWN RULES. IN TEXAS YOU HAVE TO DO IT BY PROXY AND THAT IS THE ONLY WAY.

CONTACT THE WARDEN AND SEE WHAT THE CONDITIONS AND RULES ARE THERE. ALSO I HAVE TO SAY WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. IF YOU ARE IN LOVE AND IT IS MENT TO BE THEN IT WILL BE JUST DO NOT RUSH INTO IT BECUASE HE IS LOCKED UP. I AM 25 AND JUST GOT MARRIED IN NOV. SO I CAN SAY THAT YOU ARE NEVER READY AND I LOVE BEING MARRIED BUT BEING MARRIED TO AN INMATE CAN BE HARDER THEN BEING IN A REALATIONSHIP WITH AN INMATE. THINK LONG AND HARD AND MAKE SURE THIS IS WHAT YOU ARE READY FOR.. GOD BLESS

There a mood of excitement in writting afar in reguards to a romance. IMO, it doesn't matter if it's across State lines, another country or a prison. When two are seperated by any means, they (both) can make the situation, what every they want, filling what ever needs, wants, desires they have at the time. And "later" is yet to be seen.

My hubby is also in Virginia. He's at Coffeewood finally after Fairfax and Mecklenberg. Now that we'll have a new director in Virginia things may start to get better for the inmates. As others have said, contact the prison and find out what their rules on marriages are.

I hear what you're saying Bookgirl, I REALLY didn't want to get married in prison, that's not how I pictured my wedding. I love him so much that I'm willing to do that...but 5 years isn't a long time. Perhaps I can stay engaged for the next two years or so...

Sorry I'm posting late. I wish I could help you answer your question about marriage, but you really need to be the one to do that. I can tell you this. I to am engaged to be married to an inmate, but I am much older than you and have been through two marriages. I know when we are young we think we know everything and understand what love is but I truly feel it takes many years of maturity to figure out what true love and committment is all about. A few at your age may be ready for marriage, but most are not.

I myself would never been able to handle everything I have went through with my fiancee if I had been your age, not saying you can't but just be very careful and not in a rush to get married.

My name is Cindy, my hubbies name is David. One of the women whos husband is at Coffeewood also has a brother at Powhatan. She makes the trip from one to the other almost every weekend. I put some articles in general prison talk. Hopefully things are going to get better now.

Maybe a stupid question, but this came in mind when i saw the picture with you and your sis. Darrell tells me that you guys always take full body pictures. is this true? i send him 'normal pics', what means with just my face on it or something (like my avatar) he thinks that weird?

How come he thinks its wierd? I'm not a fan of full body pictures either because I was insecure about the way I looked. Darrell wants to see your whole body that's all. He wants to fantasize about you. ;-)

Steven asks me for full body pics, naked and all but I'm scared someone else will see them. I saw it on Judge Mathis one time, the guy showed all the other inmates pictures of his wife and started selling copies to the inmates.

what?? talking of disrespect....yeah, darrell is always telling me he feels like someone puts a big cake in front of him and he can only taste a little crum of it LOL...he even sent me a picture of his sis and her girlfriends, you know, showing their booty....with clothes on of course!! always asking me to take a pic like that. I tell him No no no boy...I don't feel comfi about such pics, it's not me, you just wait until I come to visit you ;)

join the club!! when he calls, he always asks me what I have on, and then I ask him what he has on. altho I know he's always wearing orange, I just ask anyway...maybe it sounds stupid, but I think he looks sexy in his orange jumpsuit :)

LOL We're the same way their jumpsuits look so good on him. He wears blue now.

I bet blue suits him as well as orange.....I asked Darrell, when he gets transferred to send me some of his clothes, for me to wear...just another way to feel closer to him

Cool Budwoman the family is growing, that is good. My family on my mom's side is relatively small.

Leonda, I know. Last year I wanted a baby very much...but now I'm glad I didn't do it, because I broke up with Jordi. Still want a baby. Whenever I see a child smile, it makes me happy. My heart tells me I want a baby very bad, but my mind tells me I have to wait. I want to be financial stable before bringing a child in this world. I still have time...My mom was 44 when she had my youngest brother (he's 2). I see my 2 little baby brothers as my own babies, so I'll wait until they are all grown up :)

Yeah it is hard, but they are just so ADORABLE! I had my daughter at 16 so it was relatively hard especially with finishing school. You'll know when the time is right!

Your child is beautiful!! As far as those nekked pics to your hub inside goes, DON'T DO IT!!! I can NOT stress this enough! ANYONE can get a hold of those and on the internet they go.
I hope he is satisfied with clothing pics! :D
