View Full Version : Need suggestions/Ideas for a topic for a paper
kayos-grl 09-12-2005, 07:46 AM I have to write a paper this week that is going to be 5 different parts. It is called an I search project. We have to have a personal story to tell and then information we want to research for the paper. I would like to do something in regards to the prison system, but I can't come up with a topic...any suggestions????
MrsBenji 09-12-2005, 11:11 AM Is your loved one subject to Truth In Sentencing? That would be an easy one to tie in. Or about the history of the penal system? Maybe the legistation on the law that your loved on was convicted under?
Are those the sort of ideas, or no? I am probably missing the point. (It's already been that kinda day!)

one_luv 09-12-2005, 11:19 AM Kayos-
Can you give us some hints about what you've been through. Might help us brainstorm ideas.
If it's 5 parts, could it be the entire 1. life before arrest-2. arrest-3. prosectution-4. trial (or plea bargain) & conviction--5. prison life. You would basically be explaining what the process was and what you or your loved one went through.
kayos-grl 09-12-2005, 11:53 AM My now ex is locked up, but I have several pen pals and friends that are locked up. The biggest thing that i have seen that I was thinking about possibly writing about is how prisoners are treated. It is something that I have to be able to research. My ex was at Wallens Ridge and there are many reports that I can use from there ablout the mistreatment of inmates. Do you think that would be alright for a paper???
MrsBenji 09-12-2005, 12:11 PM It's up to you. Make sure you have enough factual info to back it up. One or two articles may not be enough for your prof! :) Sounds like a good start!!

venicespirit 09-12-2005, 12:25 PM How about the effects of long term incarseration. you go go through all the steps from trial and senencing, to incarseration, to re-entry to homelife.
kayos-grl 09-12-2005, 01:09 PM Thanks for the good ideas. I am going to use what I was thinking or the effect of long term incarceration!!!!
Atalie 09-12-2005, 02:34 PM How about the differences between state prisons and federal ones. Or about women who fall in love/marry long term offenders or violent offenders. You could probably find women right on PTO who would interview for you.
kayos-grl 09-14-2005, 07:22 AM Thank you all for the wonderful ideas.
kayos-grl 09-16-2005, 08:13 AM Well, I turned in a draft for my paper and it was going to be long term effects of incarceration, but my teacher wasn't really feeling my topic, so I changed it. I ended up doing it on Living Life with an Amuptation since my grandfather just had his leg amputated. I am going to post part A for the grammer police!!!
e_wife03 09-16-2005, 03:25 PM Too bad your teacher wasnt feeling that topic.. that could have at least taught some about the thing about the prison life
MrsBenji 09-16-2005, 06:22 PM Maybe your teacher was worried it would be toooooo detailed?
Your paper looks good!! :)

kayos-grl 09-21-2005, 12:05 PM I was kinda upset that she didn't want me to do it, but I will find a way in another class to write about it anyway.
