View Full Version : New...Hubby leaves Tuesday
davesgirl66 09-11-2005, 06:25 PM My husband will be going to the county jail on Tuesday to await transfer to DOC. I am very scared and nervous. He has a 20 year sentence. I would appreciate any info on the whole process. I am very unfamiliar with all of this. I have been reading the posts here for about a month....and I appreciate all of the info that is on here. I don't know who to turn to or who to trust for information. There is a lot on the DOC website, but I'm not sure how true it is. If you have any info for me......please let me know. I will continue to read the posts, and if I can be of any help to anyone, please let me know.
THANKS & GOD BLESS

Jade01 09-11-2005, 08:32 PM Welcome to PTO davesgirl! I'm not exactly sure what kind of information you're looking for, so if you have any specific questions, I might be able to help you more.
When your husband gets to county, he will be put (or have already been put) on a waiting list to go to prison, he will then be brought to Diagnostics where he will get shaved, have his picture taken, medical exam, etc., etc.,and find out which prison he will be going to. He should be able to call & write you from diagnostics if you are on his list at county. Once he gets to prison, he will be considered a class 2 and be put on hoe squad unless he has any medical conditions preventing him from doing so. He will be on hoe squad for 2 months, and if he goes the 2 months without a disciplinary, he will then be considered a class 1 and get a better "job". While he is a class 2, he will be able to have visits every 2 weeks, but when he gets his class 1 status, he will be eligible for every weekend visits.
Hope any of the above information helps you out. Many of us have been where you are right now and can totally understand how you must be feeling. PTO is a wonderful place to get the support and information you need. I hope you have a wonderful next few days with your husband!
titantoo 09-11-2005, 10:40 PM Cannot give you any information you wanted, sorry, except that I can trust better what I read here than what one reads on any DOC site. But in both cases ypou need to be bale to read between the lines, so to speak.
I do want to welcome you to PTO. It is a wonderful place full of kind, generous and knowledgeable people who will do their utmost to help and support you when they can.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable than I will respond soon.

venicespirit 09-11-2005, 11:25 PM Davesgirl. Hi and welcome to PTO. I'm sorry i don't know much about the DOC, for my husband is with the BOP. But, you will find lots of love and support here. This is a wonderful group of people who friendship quickly begins to feel like family.
cfareyx3 09-12-2005, 03:54 PM Hi, my brother went to prison a few months ago. This is all stiff fresh so I might be abel to help you. I know this is a VERY difficult time. My mom and me and the people my brother has on his side and we both live in different states. It hsa been very difficult and frustrating and so many people here have gone through the same thing we can all relate. Some people handle better than others.. At times I wondered who would lose it first my brother, my mom or me. But it just takes time to adjust. I sent you a private message as well.

Jimnbeth 09-12-2005, 07:08 PM Welcome Davesgirl66!! I was also in your shoes not too long ago. It's overwhelming and it's hard to know where to go for information. This site is great for support, information, etc.
A good place to start would be with the "ADC Guide for Family & Friends" (if you don't already have it). It will help to answer some general questions about how the "system" works (or should work) and provides pertinent phone numbers and addresses that you'll need once he's moved to the ADC. It obviously won't help too much with the "county" portion. The link is as follows:
http://www.state.ar.us/doc/services.html#How
(You'll have to click on the Adobe link at the bottom of the page - it's a fairly large document).
Have you done any research into how much time Dave will actually have to serve? Let us know if we can answer any specific questions or at least, hopefully, point you in the right direction.
WELCOME AGAIN~~:)
rottn 09-12-2005, 08:26 PM Welcome to PTO.
davesgirl66 09-12-2005, 08:36 PM Thanks to all for making me feel welcome! I really appreciate your support at this time in our life. If I can help anyone with anything, please just let me know what I can do. Dave's sentence is for 20 years, but he must serve 70% or 14 years. I'm not actually certain what that means. I'm not sure if that means that is all he will serve or if that is when he becomes eligible for parole. If you have the answer to that question, please let me know!
Again, if I can help anyone with anything......just let me know!!!
God Bless!

crisnclay 09-18-2005, 09:18 AM My husband was sentenced under the 70% (15 years) and he has to do 10 1/2 years before hes eligible for parole. He has already done over 8 years. My husband is considered a violent :haha: offender. I laugh because my lab pup is more violent than my husband. Anyway, if your husband is labeled a violent offender he will have to server 70% of his time unless the Governor gives him clemency.

I left a message about the prison system as I work in one of the prisons. Look for a post today with the name retired. Of course, things are different at each unit as the warden has the last word in each prison. retired
