View Full Version : Family Visit in a month @ Old Folsom
BANNYSMOM 09-11-2005, 12:21 AM My husband and I have gotten approved for a Family Visit @ Old Folsom. It is in one Month. I have not went to visit him there, and want to know if I need to fill out a visiting form, and be approved before our visit? Also, i will be flying out from LAX, and wanted to know if anyone had any information on hotels (a nicer one) out there that are close to the prison. Also, what the process is for checking in at a family visit???????? I heard that the lines are long, and you need a numbered pass?? Would I also need one??? even if I am going to a Family Visit and not a regular day visit? Can I take my clothes in a duffle bag, or does it have to be a clear bag? Can I take in my own towels? What about the dredss code? Can i wear sandals/flip flops? Can my daughter wear tank tops, jeans? My daughter used to take in paper, crayons, and a bedtime book when we would have Family Visits in Delano, anyone know if she could take in the same there? i have to appologize for ALL the questions:o Thank you to all who respond, it is greatly appreciated. Im just a little uneasy about going to Old Folsom for the first time, and not knowing the process, and rules. Thanks so much again....

denverswife 09-11-2005, 08:59 PM I family visit at Mule Creek, and this is true there:
If you are approved for family visits, that's all the approval you need.
The long lines are for regular, contact visits. There will only be a couple of people going in to family visiting. We go in when there is no regular anyway, Monday AM and Fri AM. The dress code is relaxed, but still no denim or chambray colored clothes. Clear bag, or they will put your stuff into one as they search it. No towels unless you have a note from a doctor saying your are allergic to their soap. Tank tops ok, under wires if you pack them, not wear them. You still have to pass a metal detecter. Crayons, coloring book, regular soft cover books, OK.

Mrs. Denvers wife,
I know that I have asked the same questions before, and you have answered :), and thank you!!!! I guess that since now we actually have a date set, and it is a few weeks, Im getting nervous. Especially about the Filght, etc. I spoke to the Family Visiting coordinator this morning, she is very nice, and understanding. It sounds like she has has lots of newbies :) I think that I will be okay as soon as I see my husband. Thanks again for responding.
jdcjmc1 09-18-2005, 12:11 AM There are motels in Rancho Cordova that are called Wingate Inn Hotels, If you o online through travelocity I believe they are 60.00 a night. Normally 130.00 if you go directly through them. They are also located close to everything. They are wonderful there and the people were friendly. They are about 25 miles from the prison. They have the internet , cable, rent movies and the hotel was immaculate and also have fridges and microwaves, coffee makers and irons int he room.

Thanks so much!!!! I spoke to the family visiting officer and she also told me about the Residence Inn @ Rancho Cordova. I am looking into taking a shuttle to the prison from the airport. I dont want to spend so much money on a rental car (so rediculous!!!) just so it can sit in the parking lot for 3 days. Thank you so much again  for responding. If I do end up staying in town, I will look into the Wingate Inn.
jdcjmc1 09-18-2005, 01:18 AM actually enterprise has a special right now. if you rent a car on a friday and return it on a monday it is half off. i am renting one for my friend and it is 43.00 for the three days. If you fly into Sacramento airport the shuttle can take you to enterprise to pick up your car. Sacramento is about 20 miles from Rancho Cordova and then the motel is 25 miles or so from Folsom. Check into travelocity and see if you can get the rooms cheaer. I already have mone booked for Dcember and like i said they only cost me 60.00 compared to 130.00. Have fun
denverswife 09-18-2005, 10:26 AM Also, try calling the Friends Outside. They are the ones that run the trailer on the gounds with extra clothes and child care and such. In Susanville they will come into town and pick you up at your hotel and take you back after!!
brownqueen 10-06-2005, 02:17 PM I just went this weekend and stayed at Fairfield Inn in Rancho Cordova and it is about only 7 miles away from the prison not too bad. I drove out there from Phoenix. The hotel is like right on the Hwy 50 so you just jump on Hwy 50 to Folsom Blvd then make a Left go about 6 miles to Natoma Right and look for Prison Rd on the Left hand side. It is not hard to find at all, but what I did find is on your way back don't take Hwy 50 back to Rancho Cordova take the Wes Sacramento exit it will take you back to Rancho Cordova.
There are quite a few little hotels in Folsom that are highly expensive but there is one that is 45.oo in old folsom. Its the Folsom Lodge Motel 501 E Bidwell St 916-983-4880 I found it after I already went with the one in Rancho Cordova and it is so close. If you have any questions let me know and I can help ya as much as I can !!
dwayne's sweety 10-06-2005, 05:31 PM Wow It is good to see there is another person from AZ that goes to CA. Of course I have not been able to go yet and visit. My guy is in SVSP in Soledad, they are always on lock down. I am really hoping to be able to visit before the end of this year. We have been corresponding for almost 2 years.
