View Full Version : What is the best class that you have taken?
MrsBenji 09-09-2005, 10:59 AM I've taken lots of classes throughout my *several* years in college, and well, some classes you just show up and there are other, a few, classes, that you go, you pay attention, you are involved in the class and like being involved. And you might even be a little sad when the term ends...
What class was that for you?

MrsBenji 09-09-2005, 11:05 AM One of my top faves was the first Philosophy class I took. It made me change my major from bio-chemistry to Philosophy, and that was the only change I ever made. (Imagine that! A college student who only changed majors ONE time!! ;) )
It was taught by a man who could have been the love child between George Carlin and Norm McDonald. It was called "Current Moral Dilemmas: And the Lack Thereof." It was about the issues in today's society that are argued based on moral grounds. It made me swoon to see other people calmly, logically, and rationally discussing hot topics. I was IN LOVE with the environment and moved on to taking classes that would spend weeks discussing whether or not we were actually sitting in the classroom, but that first one was the trigger of my affair with Philosophy. :)
Rambling...

babygurl919 09-16-2005, 07:21 PM I took a class called "Origins of the Universe" once, and it was some of the coolest stuff I've learned about in all my years of school. It was really hard, but the lectures were so interesting that I found myself REALLY WANTING to go to each class. Some of the stuff we learned in that class was just mind-blowing. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone interested in how the universe started.
mzluvbug 09-16-2005, 11:35 PM My favorite class has been Ethics in America!! I am in this class now & it is great!! The teacher keeps you thinking!!
babieboo 09-25-2005, 10:35 AM So far I am really enjoying my paralegal classes. I look forwarding to going everyday and my teacher is great!:)
I was an elementary ed major, but really wanted to teach high school, so I took some secondary education classes. The class I remember affecting me the most was "Methods of teaching secondary history" The teacher didn't teach a single thing, but required us to read and think and debate. He knew that I was quiet, and conservation, so he assigned me the most controversial topics to present. I read like a mad woman so I could be knowledgeable when presenting and learned so much about topics I thought I already knew everything about.
kreepsgirl 09-25-2005, 12:05 PM That would have to be my Criminal Law classes right now. Criminal Evidence and Criminal Law.
sweetnbeautiful 10-15-2005, 09:32 AM One of the best classes I ever took was Race, Class, and Gender. The class is purely discussion and reading and writing your own thoughts. It really gets you thinking and allows you to see others opinions. Some stuff we had to read was just disturbing but it was good to be made aware! The teacher was awesome too, very outspoken and funny. If you are interested in reading some of the stuff we had to for class here's the link. http://www.fscwv.edu/users/pedwards/edwards.html

babyames 10-15-2005, 01:00 PM I have two all-time favorite college courses. The first was in my sophomore year, I took a block class which combined history and psychology where we studied the psychology of war. It covered ideologies, underlying factors, even the psychology of war victims, like concentration camp victims. I was enthralled.
Last year I took a 400-level class at the U of WA which was challenging, yet VERY rewarding. It was called "Science and Religion in the Historical Perspective", and not only was it amazingly insightful, but it offered me a chance to be exposed to things my major doesn't usually focus on. I read the theories of Copernicus, Galileo, Einstein, Aristotle, Plato.....not only their scientific perspectives but their religious philosophies as well. (I wasn't aware that Einstein had published so much about religion!).
Classes like these stick with you forever.

cinderella2004 10-23-2005, 07:04 AM I have two:
Ecology 101 - took this many many years ago ... when it was a new subject. Great teacher and great info I've never forgotten.
Refresher for Adults returning to School - took this at a local university as suggested by a counselor before returning to school. They taught us how to study, how to take notes, how to read a book, how to write a term paper. I still use these skills, great great class. It was a three credit class and we sure earned those credits!
nimuay 10-23-2005, 12:23 PM Hmmmm, thought I'd answered this, but I don't see it anywhere; a high-school physics course with an astounding teacher, and a course that I took, sort of as a semester-filler when a required class was already full - Southeast Asian Folklore. The gentleman who taught it was Burmese and had done a great deal of research . . . it covered basic history and creation myths and all sorts of fascinating stories in comparison/contrast with European/American folklore.
I lost the text and the notes to it in a flood, but I've never forgotten . .
