Please forgive me for the cross-post, I don't mean to be annoying, I posted this to the regular visitation section too.

I've been visiting my friend the last two weekends at CIM in Chino, CA, and it seems their metal detectors are turned up very high, because even my little costume jewelry ring set it off. I am getting hair extensions in a few weeks and they're the interlocking kind, with a small metal attachment on the end (which I found out is copper). I already paid for them so it's too late to back out, but I got to thinking, I bet these things set off the metal detector when I get them!

The company that makes them said they've never had problems setting off detectors, but that was at airports and perhaps those are not as sensitive as in prison.

So I'm wondering what I should do? Should I just write to the visiting sargeant now and try to get approval ahead of time? Just curious if anyone else had an issue with this and particularly at Chino.

I'm already freaking out about potentially not being able to visit anymore. :(

Well I think the only way you can get in is with a dr. note stating you have something on you that would have them go off! Otherwise they won't let you in if they go off! They might not though, just walk in VERY SLOWLY through the metal detectors and you might get through. You have to get them right, so there isn't much you can do about it now...I am thinking they won't set them off. Good Luck!

they probably won't let you visit with the extensions with that metal[copper] on the end i have seen where people were denied a visit because they didn't get prior permission for their hair being done like that[weaves, etc.,]call up there and ask.

Thank you for your feedback. I wrote a letter to to the visiting sargeant today respectfully requesting the continuation of my visits and explaining the situation. If they require a doctor's signature, I'll get one. I'll be so upset if my visits are terminated.
