View Full Version : How many of us have went BACK to school?
MrsBenji 09-06-2005, 11:11 AM Have you went back to school? To get a different degree/learn a new skill? To finish up one you already started? To begin one you didn't get to?
What made you want to go back?
I'm back in school getting my BS and Masters in Accounting after being out for a few years. I went back because I realized that as much as I loved my Philosophy circulum, that it wasn't going to get me a job that paid too well, and I was working in payroll at the time, and I've always been pretty good at accounting, so back I went. :)
What about y'all?
Jenn
one_luv 09-09-2005, 11:15 AM I went back to finish my bachelor's and get my master's after a long break raising my young'un. In the field I work in, having a master's degree is like a hall pass.
It doesn't really matter what it's in, just so long as you have it. I picked something that I really enjoy and can use to freelance- visual communication.

timber_fairy 10-19-2005, 02:00 AM I am thinking about going back to school next semester. I figure why not use my time before my husband comes home to finish my degree. I only have 1 1/2 yrs left.
kreepsgirl 10-19-2005, 09:35 AM I decided to go back to school when I got laid off from my job. I went to school to be a pharmacy technician, now I am trying to get my AA in Criminal Justice.
e_wife03 10-19-2005, 09:48 AM I am so proud of you all .. way to go ladies..
I am back in school working on getting my AA in sonagraphy.. I decide that i wanted a degree so i can make more money and be able to do for my family.
Cartee 10-24-2005, 10:40 PM Turning 30, after doing alittle research realizing I only need 8 more classes to get my AA in Business Administration/Management, wanna make more money-reasons I decided to go back to school. I decided to take Economics my first term after not being in school for several years-WHAT WAS I THINKING?? Im doing pretty well though. Good luck to everyone pursuing higher education:thumbsup:
mrsdragoness 10-25-2005, 05:07 AM I went back to school twice! I was not allowed to attend my high school senior year in 1967 because I was married and preggers. (boy have times changed ;)) I didn't go back to high school until 1978. I graduated in June 1979 and was hired by the State of Michigan just a few months later!
Then in 2003, I decided that I was tired of being computer ignorant so I started Classes and am working toward an associates degree in Information Technology.
trnd_around 10-25-2005, 08:10 AM I went to a major university right after high school in 1990. I didn't like the large classes (one of my classes was held in an auditorium with about 300 other students!) and I got caught up in the party life; so I dropped out after six months. Fast forward to January 2005. I knew after being in prison and going through therapy that I couldn't just stay idle and feel sorry for myself. So I went back to college to finish what I originally started 15 years ago...pursuing my BA in Visual Design. The cool thing is now it's all computer based. I'm starting out in a 2 yr school after which I will transfer to a 4yr to finish up. Now I have my own website and doing something I actually enjoy (except the general studies courses:blah:)!
Nuro's Wife 10-27-2005, 09:14 AM I just enrolled yesterday for the spring semester to get my 2nd masters degree. I am studying Religious Studies with a concentration in Applied Ethics. Even though this degree will help me in my work, it is more for my own personal fulfillment and enrichment.
I have been out of school since January and I do really miss it! Call me crazy...:p...I just love to learn!
MrsBenji 10-27-2005, 09:33 AM That's great! For everyone!! I'm a firm believer in getting educated and enjoying it.
And don't let Nuro's fool y'all, she's just going back to get out of paying those student loans! ;)

trnd_around 10-27-2005, 10:24 AM Maybe there's something to this professional student thing....getting out of paying school loans huh?:p
ihatethis 10-27-2005, 10:31 AM I started in 1995 right after high school, then dropped out then went back in 2003 and I am still in, going year round even during the summer to get my degree to be an alcohol and substance abuse counselor.
Atalie 10-27-2005, 11:19 AM I went to nursing school when I was 48, graduated at 50. It was really hard, but I was so proud of myself!!!!
teajai71 10-27-2005, 12:01 PM I'm back in school too!!!:yay: I went to college right out of high school (in 1989) and went for four years with a two-quarter break. I didn't finish because I wasted my entire last year running to visit my then-boyfriend at his school...STUPID!!!!!:slap: :shake: I went back to another school in the spring 2004 semester...then all of this happened...and I just re-enrolled in summer 2005. Now I have a realistic goal for finishing up. My baby encouraged me by saying that if I didn't finish:nono: , he was going to leave me! WHATEVER!!! Anyways, I'll be finished sometime in the 2006-07 school year (there a quite a few more requirements than when I was in the first time) and I'm going to continue on to get my MFA in Creative Writing or my MA in English or Humanities.
GOOD FOR US!!!
TJ
Nuro's Wife 10-27-2005, 12:23 PM Oh yay!!! I will be taking classes until I am collecting social security...then I'll be too poor to pay them back!:p
Maybe there's something to this professional student thing....getting out of paying school loans huh?:p
closedaccountformerlysupernova2005 11-17-2005, 11:29 AM Go Ronnie!
I am in school for two reasons - one is that my employer pays the bill!
TWO - IT KEEPS MY OLD STUDENT LOANS AWAY! Once I get my AA in December I am transferring to a 4 year online school - you guessed it - TO KEEP THOSE LOANS AWAY! I have to stay in school until I get degrees and make enough money to repay those dang loans! The price of being smart!
norma_jean58 12-06-2005, 07:27 PM i'm 47 and just finishing my 1st semester, i'm also going for nursing....
