My friend is serving 12 months and is to be released in February 2006. I write to him and visit him as much as I can because he is a good person and needs support (his family lives out of state). I told him I would like him to stay with me for a little while until he finds a suitable place to live permanently. My concern is my landlord (who lives in the duplex right behind mine and is constantly around). She told me when I moved here that anybody living here will have to sign the lease, and I'm concerned because obviously he has a felony and she can deny him, right? I have no idea how parole works, either. Does he have to prove he has a place to live before he's released? I've been reading something about inspections, and PO inspecting properties before people are released.

So my questions are, what do I do about the landlord? If he's here short-term, do I say anything? And also what about the parole officer? Do they have to approve his living arrangements? Will he report that information to my landlord?

I live in Calfornia. Any advice would be appreciated, I am confused. As I said, my friend is a good person and I want to give him the best possible start to his new life.

Thank you for any help!
