Yes it is much more laid back. No metal detector, no long lines to be "processed", you bring your own food. Just do not wear green or orange and call the camp that he is supposed to go to and they can give you specifics for visiting.
c's baby 09-16-2005, 09:23 PM another good reason to call is to make sure the inmate is not out of camp on a fire. make sure you have no cameras. the inmate can purchase photo ducats to have pictures taken. you can b-b-que. no bottles plastic/or glass. cans only. park like setting. you can bring food from a drive-in or in your own ice chest. yes, total layed back.
Jen661 09-16-2005, 09:36 PM Yes they are a lot more laid back and the waiting to check in is usually a breeze. Don't get carried away though becaus eyou have to remember that they are still locked up and they are still CDC property. :( Pat and I got too comfortable and got our visits taken for 90 days, so kick back enjoy the more kicked back situation but try not to forget where you are (it is easy to do that sometimes)
Welcome to fircamp!
c's baby 09-16-2005, 09:46 PM ouch. :(
lostinluv 11-02-2005, 10:21 PM How long can you visit for? Is there any physical contact allowed at all? Any help is appreciated.
c's baby 11-04-2005, 10:20 PM Our visits are for 5 1/2 hours. Yes you touch. We sit next to each other at the picnic table. A hug here and there. A kiss also. All within reason!
lostinluv 11-07-2005, 12:15 PM Ohhhh.... that is so sweet! You are bringing tears to my eyes! I hope I get that form soon, cuz that would definately be worth the 11 hour drive!!!! Just seeing him would be worth it, but touching!!!!!! Thank you for your reply!:)
lostinluv 11-07-2005, 12:17 PM One more question..... Do you know if I were to go for two days, could I see him both days?
c's baby 11-07-2005, 07:37 PM I go pretty much every saturday and sunday. no appointment necessary. well at least not at Bautista C. C.
Thankgiving will be Thursaday, (now they aren't sure about Friday), Saturday and Sunday! :)
lostinluv 11-08-2005, 11:10 AM OMG!!!!!! I wish the damn mail would hurry! Now I am even more excited! Thank you so much for your help Debbie.
lostinluv 11-09-2005, 05:12 PM I am just wondering if the mail moves any quicker when the inmates are located at a fire camp? There isnt as many inmates mail to go through, you would think it would be quicker, or do they only do mail pickups from the post office on certain days. If anyone knows how this works....PPPPPPPPPlease let me know.
Thanks a bunch!!!!
c's baby 11-09-2005, 06:16 PM I am in orange county, my husband is in riverside county. He gets mail from me in one to two days. The post office delivers there everyday. The office/ c.o.'s sort and distibute the mail the same day they get. Again, that is what happens at bautista. :)
Mrs.L 11-10-2005, 01:04 PM Same here. In my experience when the mail is delivered from the post office they sort it and the inmates get it the same day.
lostinluv 11-10-2005, 02:16 PM Thank you so much for your responses. It has bee almost 3 weeks since I have heard from him and I am beginning to worrie. I hope he is alright. I guess I just need to be patient and wait to see.
Thanks again, you are all so kind.
lostinluv 11-11-2005, 11:11 AM :yay: I got a 25 page letter last night!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally~~ I am so excited!!

I'm from Orange County and my boyfriend (also from the O.C.) spent 7 months in Susanville and then on Monday, they moved him to the camp in Klamath, CA (i.e. Alder C.C.) which is as far north as you can get from here without going into Oregon. My boyfriend said they determine which camp they're going to send you to based on how many 'points' you have on your record. ???? I'm not really sure though... my guess would be wherever they have room?
lostinluv 12-20-2005, 05:37 PM Ok I am soooooo excited! My man has been writing me regularly and calling. I am traveling to go see him for Dec 31st and Jan 1st. This will be my first visit to the fire camp in Bieber CA. Which is between Susanville and Alturas. It is gonna be a hell of a trip since I am in SLC, Utah.... but I am sure it will be so worth it.
I am not sure what determins which camp they get sent to. I imagine it would be where they have room. I would how ever be glad that he did make it to a fire camp. I know my man has been working his ass off, but they can also get into hobby where they can make things and send them to you. My man just sent me a heart made from nickle silver with his name in it.... It is sooo damn sweet! The camp in Bieber also has pool tournaments... I dont know what the other camps are like, but they are probably similar.
c's baby 12-21-2005, 01:52 PM I was under the impression that you go to a camp that has a opening and hopefully close to home. I am in Orange County, my husband came down to Riverside County. It is 80 miles from my place. That is sooooooooo much better than 400+. I don't think the points have anything to do with it. That would be impossible.
Matts_Dad 12-23-2005, 11:17 AM They are assigned to a camp based on two things, which prison fire training facility they are at (Jamestown/Susanville) and where there is an opening. Jamestown is the home facility for all camps in the southern part of the state. CCC Susanville is the home facility for all northern camps. So if they are at Jamestown then they will be assigned to the first camp with an opening in the southern half of the state. If they are at Susanville they will be assigned to the first camp with an opening in the northern half of the state.
Our son is at Trinity River and it is very nice compared to Susanville. We visited him at Thanksgiving and the visit was very laid back. You can bring in store or restaurant food but you must have a receipt. We brought him an omlet from a local restaurant for breakfast and food from the grocery store to make our own sandwiches during visiting. Just remember plastic forks, knives, spoons only.
Merry Christmas

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, I haven't been on in a while. The camp is just outside Lewiston. We stayed in Weaverville and the camp was about a 45 min drive. If you are familiar with Trinity Lake the camp is off Trinity Dam Blvd. The turn off is very close to the dam.
h8t_the_w8t 01-20-2006, 06:19 AM :D I visited my man on 12/31 & 1/01 at Washington Ridge Camp, in Nevada City, Ca. My first time seeing him since April 2005, and it was wonderful! I took him chinese food, fried chicken, fresh fruit, lemon cake all his favorites, and come to find out he had Prime Rib on X-mas! Gee, prison sure is tough, I told him.[haha!] The visiting was held inside cause it was hailing and raining. Six of us were allowed to visit with him at the same time. They had a television with a VCR/DVD and we could bring movies in case the kids got bored. They had a mircrowave in case you had to warm anything up. We got to visit for about 6 1/2hours. The CO's were very nice well at least the one that was in the visiting room with us was. Thank god his crew didn't get called out for flood control when we went! It was a hell of a drive but worth every mile!:)
lostinluv 01-23-2006, 10:27 AM I visited my man 12/31 and 01/01 at Intermountain Conservation Camp in Bieber. I had a similar experience and it was worth every minute. We had to visit most of the time inside because it was snowing heavily outside. He told me his nerves were shot so he wouldnt have much of an appitite (because we havent seen each other in over 10 years), but he asked me to bring him jolly ranchers and 7Up. It was amazing, on Saturday (visit day 1) I was trembling like a cold wet puppy! I was so scared and excited. I signed in and gave my keys and ID to the visiting officer, he glanced through my bag of jolly ranchers and 7up. He didnt search me and there was no medal detector. My man came in (mind you I have not seen him in 10 years) he handed me a piece of paper with his wedding vows written on it! Then asked me to marry him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow......... OMG!!!!!!!!! Of course I said YES!!!!!!!!!! We played and touched many times in a casual/sexual way when the officers wernt looking. We shared a few jolly ranchers!:D They had a BBQ area which had a huge fish pond, it was snowing on and off this day so we only went out there to take pictures. I was able to bring a 10 pack of poloroid film and they called another inmate down to take pictures of us! :D The whole 6 hours was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All of the officers were very nice and respectfull to both of us. Sunday, was a little different. One of the officers on duty had a wild hair and yelled at us because I touched his chin!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow he was mean and yelling at other inmates... (He had issues) This day it was snowing to hard to take any pictures. So we just stayed in the visiting room. When I left he gave me a clock that he had made for me in hobby! It was beautiful, he wrote part of his vows on it in brass.:D The hobby officer had my car cleaned off for me and let my man walk me to my car and let us have one last hug. I had to sit in my car for a while because I couldnt quit crying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All and all it was amazing!!!! Now I am planning another trip for May. Its an 11 hour drive so I can only see him on occation. :(

BlessedLady35 02-07-2006, 11:52 PM Wow all of your stories have just made my day. My husband just got sent to Antelope Fire Camp right next door to CCC. I will be hopefully going to visit him there this weekend. I am so excited about being able to bring him food and be in a more relaxed enviroment. I am also excited about just signing in and he will be right there. The last time I went to visit at CCC I waited 2 hours to see my husband because he did not know I was coming and they made him go back and shave.
love? 02-12-2006, 04:21 AM hey lostinluv,
He is in North Kern, Delano right now. He has been there about 65 days and still hasn't seen his counselor! I pray regularly that he gets in. He just got his blood pressure checked and it's still too high to pass the health exam. Any suggestions anyone?
momuvjosh 02-14-2006, 08:55 AM BlessedLady, Did you get to see yur husband this weekend? My son called and he finally got moved to Arnold Yard on Thursday. He said it is different from Cascade and he is very anxious to get started and get moved to camp. He hopes he does not go just right across the street. He wants to get out 0f Susanville completely. Well I guess we will see.
