Since this is the first time ever that my brother has gone through this I was wondering what Van or bus should i take to see him there since I live in Manhattan. :) There is a bus service starting in albany that will go to Albion/Orleans correctional fac. It will be the 2nd Sunday of each month. It will leave greyhound bus station at 2:00 am.

It is a free bus by the DOC.

There was one other one also but, I forget the name of it. The information is at work. I will be sure to post it here on Monday.

He ya'll! I'm looking for bus service from Port Authority to Rikers, can anyone help me? I am actually coming from MA but, the bus puuls in to PORT AUTHORITY PM ME

Just stoppin in to tell about my ride up with United Brothers (contact info ~Corky ~ ~917~731~4286). He's got a seating system so there's NO overbooking and NO seat saving. If you call after he's booked a full bus he got a standby system and he'll let you know you're on standby. He runs the book himself, not the coordinator. Speaking of coordinator, his coordinator is an alright lady -- no power-crazy, stank-tail chick there, and I feel she coordinates so well that she should be on salary. She accounts for everyone after a stop because Unity Bros. are NOT trying to leave anyone. Might I mention Saturday morning two people on the OPG bus got off at a wrong facility (Wyoming) and when they realized it and went outside, their bus was gone!! See, that's that bullshit. So the lady who works the hospital center drove them in her car to their correct facility. The weather wasn't bad so the ride went smooth. Corky drives the bus himself and he does Groveland/Livingston and Wyoming/Attica EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT FOR SATURDAY VISITS. With more air freshener than the law allowed and no pee drops on or around the toilet, the bathroom was and remained fresh and clean. Corky picks up then brings you back to a convenient stop in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan and we made no stops going and one food stop returning which is good b/c they just wanna get you where you're going without all the extra. HOWEVER, if somebody has to do #2 or change your sanitary, he will pull over with a smile and a laugh so you can handle that in a public bathroom. Someone in an earlier thread mentioned contests on the bus during the ride back home. Four people get a chance to win and I was one! Winners get a non-transferrable coupon worth ten bucks off a future ride so the next time I go I'm goin for $30 instead of $40, providing, of course, I don't lose my coupon. Comfortable ride, clean environment, movies, alert driver so no swerving on the road. Also, cordialness on the bus seemed to be contagious b/c I heard no arguing, cussing, cell phones ringing or the like -- just talk, smiles, laughter, and when the movies are playing -- quietness. I'd really like to take my husband that last January food package this weekend but b/c his visit falls on Sunday I'm choosing FedEx to get it there rather than spending that $50 with OPG to get me and the package to the facility. I love my husband as much as the next, and I go thru my fair share of bullshit in this prison game trying to meet NYS DOC requirements fars what my husband can and can't have. I don't need the bullshit on my ride there an back too! I'm not bashing Prison Gap, I'm just not up for the bullshit, that's all.

I would suggest you try Queensbridge Tours. The bus leaves every Friday for Saturday vist. The bus driver Al is very attentive and nice.I would like to know, Which is the best bus service recommended to travel to Clinton main? Its my first time taking the bus and I'm looking for a comfortable, hassle free ride. From what I see Prison Gap is not the way to go. Thank God I checked here first b/c I sure nuff was about to catch PG.

Hi, Unity Pete picks up in the Bronx, on 161 & River Ave. 718 712 2469. If you call early in the week, it's better b/c you get on the bus by the order of when your resevation was made. They are pretty good.

You're welcome. What service did you use this weekend when you went up this weekend. As I said I always ride with Kismet\Justin and the service is excellent. I visited on Saturday and we got there on time as usual and back to the city at a decent hour.

There is a company in Buffalo called B&G. They are brand new, so the woman tells me. I don't know where I put the number, but I will look for it. However, they are grimey, and I want to let you all know this....I called them, and they told me the cost from Buffalo to Mid State is $80, BUT this is only if other people are going to Mid State as well on that day. If not the r/t cost would be $120. Noe Mid State is about 3 or 3 1/2 hours away. Ok, no problem, I hadn't seen John in months so I was down for it. They require you to sign a contract and pay in advance, and will not give you a copy of it the same day you sign it, you can ge a copy the day they pick you up. They refused to make two copies, and bring two copies one that I can keep. Still, no problem....THEN, I was told that my $120 won't make them or break them and blah, blah, blah, so that's when I decided that I'd take the Greyhound.
I had already referred another female to this company. Her man is over 5 hours away, she told me Sing-Sing if I'm not mistaken. I do remember that she said he was a 8 hour car ride, very close to NYC. They told her it would be $100 r/t. Am I missing something here?
Like I said, if any of you really want the number, I will look for it and post it. My co-worker still has it.

i can't wait to find or i hope and pray for some one any one to come up with a bus service ( in ny ) that not only can grow like Prison Gap ( a** ) but can give us a safe and hasle free and drama free trip.. i'm not trying to be something i'm not but because of that reason is way i limit my trips to see my husband..that does not mean that i don't love him as much as the women that goes every weekend..but i have to think about my daughters and what they see and hear..yes they will see more then that in the world but that does not mean that they have to be around it..and while on the bus trying to tell my self that after a few hour's i have to leave my husband and i have to try to make our girl's understand that daddy can't come home, the last thing i want to here is drama..so if any one out there is thinking about getting a bus service up pl keep that in mind..and if we all that go with prison gap step up and took that drama to them and told them what we want and need and found some one else to go up with i'm sure they would change there ways..remember its our money that is making them successful...

:angry: Just a warning!! I went to see my fiance at Gowanda. This was for a sunday trip on May 23, 2004. I took the flamboyant bus. What a horror!!! First they picked some driver who had no idea as to where he was going. He lost the directions. :mad: The brakes went out. We almost was involved in a accident with a truck!! We were to arrive at 6:00 am. It took us a total of 12 hours to get there!!! Upon returning the bus driver had gotten lost 5 times. He tried to make a broken u-turn and the bus broke down in the middle of a dark road in New Jersey at 1:30 in the morning. It took 12 hours to get back to 34th street. It was 3:25 in the morning. The trip is normally about 6-7 hours. Then they had the nerve to ask for a donation from the driver!!! Riders that was going further than Gowanda only got to see their loved ones for about one hour. And would you believe they refused to offer any type of refund!!! I guess we all have our horror stories. The only ones that had no complaints was the coordinators they ride for free to see their loved ones. For $55.00 I think they should have offered at least a future free trip or some of the money back.

Call At least 2 days in advance until 11PM. She goes during the week and on the week ends and holidays. And the second number is A.& J. Transportational Service he goes everyday and he also provides door to door service. His numbers ar 212-369-4581 and 917-552-6991. They do pick-ups in Brooklyn, MAnhattan, and the Bronx. The bus leaves at 11:00 am from Brooklyn, and it left on time. We got to Auburn at 8:30 with no issues. After the visit we waited in the hospitality house for about 10 minutes, and the bus was there. We were back at our drop off by 10pm. We werent expecting to be back until 11:30pm.

hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone can tell me which service goes to Marcy correctional facility? I went this weekend with Manneys, which was just okay, nothing spectacular, but they pick up in the Bronx. I would prefer a pick up in Manhattan.

My fiancé too was also transferred to Attica recently; I used QueensBridge Tours & didn't have a problem. I'm thinking of driving up the end of September but still contemplating... Since you're coming for the week, your best bet is to fly into buffalo, rent a car & stay at a hotel. Most buses only go up for visits on weekends; otherwise, you’ll have to take Amtrak or Greyhound.

I’ve heard of other hotels such as Red Carpet Inn & Holiday Inn around the vicinity but I don’t have an exact address.

If you don't feel like driving, you can also stay at the HOPE Hospitality House (www.hopeofbuffalo.org/hospitality_house.htm (http://www.hopeofbuffalo.org/hospitality_house.htm)), which is located in Buffalo. You can make arrangements with someone from HOPE to pick you up from the airport; they also provide transportation to/from the facility.

ps. remember that if you visit more than 2x during the week, you cannot visit on weekends.

Hi Everyone! I am new to this, but I think it is fantastic! My father was sent to jail in London three months ago, but I am now in NY, going to school. I am doing my masters in journalism, and have one last semester to go. I am writing to ask for some help. Since visiting my Dad in London, I have become interested in writing a story about travelling on the bus to visit loved ones in prisons upstate. I know how difficult it is, and I really want to be able to share the stories and experiences of those who suffer alongside loved ones who are in jail. I am looking for someone to share their experiences with me. While I was visiting in Orleans CF, one of the nice people at the visitor's center gave me this number to call for transportation. She suggested that I call this number:

I called and a very pleasant women anwered the phone, and I was told that there is a bus that goes to various prisons from different cities for free, once a month. They take you there and get you home or to the closest destination to your home. I am just waiting for confirmation for my visit on 10/2. I don't care how I get there as long as I get there. I thought I would pass this number on, so that it may be of help to others. This number is an Albany number, I wonder if other States may have this too.

They pick up at 12:30 p.m. (Friday for Saturday visit, and Saturday for Sunday visit), and they pick up on 161st Street/River Avenue in front of Unity Restaurant. Hope this helps. I have been looking and looking for a bus/ van / boat / submerine (LOL) whatever it takes that goes to Gowanda, I see that alot of busses etc. go to the different prisons, but the only pick ups r in NYC. Thats the problem i don't live in NYC. Peace...You can always take New Jersey Transit out of Penn Station to Trenton, N.J. Its a lot cheaper that way. From Trenton, you can take Septa Line into Phila., Pa. Also, cheaper. Hopes that helps. Blessings...

Well I went to PA from NY on Greyhound..but depending on what town you are going to you are going to need a car..I went to Schuylkill and there are no Taxis in Minersville or Pottsville..I lucked up that day tho

Are there any bus services out of NYC that go to FCI McKean, Bradford PA? I would love to visit my boyfriend soon. Perhaps a trian that leaves Penn Station anything?



You can take greyhound to bradford then a cab to the facility but I heard they only have 1 cab 4 the whole town. plus greyhound takes double the time than driving. You can also fly out their the airport is not that far from the facility its call bradford regional airport. plus the facility is not exactly in bradford its a little before. It took me 6 hrs from nyc to mckean driving.

I am new and learning. Reading this thread it seems that at least sometimes the government cares about offenders families...which is nice to know.
At least they care enough to provide buses.
Its also nice to know that folks like United Bros. exists. For me at least learning about some of the positive things help me greatly to contain my anger. Of course, for me the most positive thing is the people in PTO.

The government does not provide these buses though. These are just city buses, local bus companies that happen to go to certain areas near facilities. Or private van services that go to facilities.

What exactly is Prison Gap?

I'm brand new to the game tryna go check a friend of mine. I heard they have the odd and even visits- does anyone have it for this month. Secondly how can I get there from NYC with no car?

The closest town of any size is Ellenville, and it's practically walking distance, I know there are busses from NYC. But maybe someone can hook you up with a bus or van service that goes straight there, I know they exist...if you do have to take a regular bus first time, there should be info at the prison about the private services

Hope all is well today. Prison Gap is a company started by a man name Ray who was locked up years ago. He started the company cause he was so far away that there was no way for him mother to come and visit him. He goes to most facilites. I do believe Mrs G had the number to the service. There are many other companies that goes to other facilities. I will have to look at the transportation thread who is there. I personally don't like Prison Gap. Some of the women has made such a name for the company until i find it unpleasing to ride with. Therefore i always find another service to ride with.. I hope no one take offense of what i've said, but when ur riding a long ride and it is early in the morning you just want to have a safe and peaceful ride.

Im planning on visiting my man in Clinton but I do not want to drive or take a bus, I was hoping to fly.....I am in Ny but I cant seem to find the airport and airline that flies there.....Does anyone know? Help!:confused:

I think you have to fly into Plattsburgh Airport located in Plattsburgh, NY. I was checking it out because my husband might be tranferring to Clinton soon (keep your fingers crossed) and since I live in PA I would definitely fly.

I live about 45 minutes from Clinton and if you are not able to get a flight into Plattsburgh (its a very small airport) then the closest airport would be Burlington VT. That is about 2 hours or so from Clinton. I live about 1 hour north of Clinton so if you need help feel free to PM me. I will do what I can.

Manny's Bus service is pretty good, I beleive he goes to Franklin and other facilities in that area as well, he has several buses to. I've used Manny's to go to Otisville and he is reliable, his buses are clean and he gets to his places on time. He has pick-ups in Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx. Call 718-469-1170

There is actually no good bus service just take your chance the ride is long and very uncomfortable. I posted a name and number of a bus service at the end of this thread check it out I used it to go to Otisville and I beleive he goes to Franklin.
