My husband was picked up on a federal warrant Oct 2002. He was just sentenced on April 24th to 96 mos or 8 years. I am in Florida and he is in Montana. For the last 7 months he has been at Cascade County Det Center, and after sentencing he was just recently moved to Shelby, MT to Crossroads Correctional Center. We have been together for 13 years and have 4 children. I am currently moving to CT. to move back home with my mom so she can help me with the kids. When I talked to my husbands lawyer I expressed my concerns about where he will be going from there. He stated that they will try to get him close to home. Is this possible? Does anyone have a say in where he goes? What are the odds that he will get close to us? I really need him to be close to us for the kids sake. They need to see their dad. I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to Federal Prisons and their rules. If anyone can be of help and how this all works...Thanks

Lostvalentine,
I am sorry to hear the position you and your husband are in. It is difficult being away from each other let alone having a family to take care of.

I don't have the answer to your question except that anything is possible with the federal prison system. I live in CT presently and my sweetheart is in NC but has been all over the southwesten and east coast. Hopefully as he approaching his last 2 1/2 years he will be in NY. But like I said anything is possible. His lawyer might have been able to get him closer but I am not sure what happens now. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you need to talk or you end up cin CT.

When my Sweetie was sentenced, the Judge ordered him to be placed to the closest facility to his home, which is 15 minutes from me. I think that they have to consider the security level, also. It just so happens that Billy has to be in a medium facility and that prison is the one closest to home. Although, when he becomes eligible for a low, he will be moved to the closest low facility which is 3 hours away in either direction.

Maybe you can talk to your husband's attorney and ask him if he can help.

Good luck to you,
