On the heals of the Life Sentence verdict today for Dennis Rader, the BTK Serial Killer, I think Bill O'Reilly brought up a good point.. How many people think this guy is going to die of old age in prison? I think he is going to have to be kept in protective custody for life or he probably will be taken out like Jeffrey Dahmer was.

What do you all think about that?

I feel that his life will be taken out whether he stays in protective custody or not. The record for having heinous serial killers lasting in prison is not very inspiring. Especially of this magnitude.

Per this afternoon Wichita Eagle:

And if prosecutors get their way, in prison he won't be able receive newspapers, writing instruments and other materials that would let him create the kind of visual images he has used to feed his violent sexual fantasies.

Another hearing will be held in 30 days for the judge to consider whether such conditions should be part of the recommendations he makes to the Department of Corrections concerning Rader's confinement.

Corrections officials say Rader is expected to be transferred to El Dorado Correctional Facility on Friday morning.

To meet those conditions he would have to be in protective custody. Will he die of old age, I do not think so.

Well he is going to a state facility until they decide where he is going to be "stationed". I was watching the news and it was so sad watching family members talk about their loss. He was brutal in what he did. I really feel for the families and I honestly believe his life will be short in prison if he isn't in PC.

My guy is at El Dorado....and I can tell you, there are more than a few inmates "eagerly awaiting" Rader's arrival. He told me he knows of at least four general population inmates with ties to Rader's victims.

If Rader isn't housed in PC, his lifespan will be incredibly short.

He will definately not be dying of old age.

Yes, I think he will definitely be taken out, can't say I'll be sorry to hear about it either.

Didn't hear anything about him saying his sentence was too harsh but nothing would surprise me. I watched his speech and then a shrink on Court TV say the speech (thanking everybody, making corrections to the power point presentation of the prosecutors, etc.) was him still trying to be in control.

I just hope somone puts him out of the victims familie's misery before he's able to finish his book and movie deal. All he ever wanted was fame, now he's getting it. I'm sure his wife would like to do him in.

There are BREAKING NEWS stories on all morning on them moving him to El Dorado for processing. There were news helicopters following the convoy. Depending on the out come of the evaluation, he will either stay at El Dorado, Lansing, or Hutchinson.

As to him profiting from his story, between the Son of Sam Law and the victims' familys' civil suitshe will never see a dime.

I was heading to El Dorado to pick up some property at the prison, but I think I'll wait another week until things die down there.
Already, you can't get anyone on the phone....grrrrr.

Guess that means he'll have no penpals.

I hope they have time to study how a human can become so deviant.

He won't last long, as soon as he starts talking his sick crap somebody will get upset. When you think about it, most serial killers have one type of victim. Either young boys, young women, children. But this guy killed men, women, children, entire families! People say what if she had been your sister or what if he had been your brother. With this guy you can say what if it had been your sister, your brother, your mother, your father, your child! the list goes on. This guy will make others think of someone they know even if they did not know the victims.

I have a feeling he might not stay at ElDorado but might get moved to
Tamms, WSPF, or ADX or I forget the name...Red Onion? Onion Ridge?, in the south. All these places have "agreements" with various states to take their "worst" inmates.

Well he was moved from reception immediately into special management at El Dorado. (Which still strikes me as a weird name for a prison..........as Pleasant Valley......... but all that is completely off topic of course.........)
Looks like they are keeping him safe. I too wonder if it will be safe enough.

With my experience in the correctional system, and many of the years in the maximum security at Lansing Correctional Facility, some of the most notorious killers aren't really harrassed as much as you would think. For instance, Alan White killed a mother, grandmother and a grandchild back in the 90's in Salina, Kansas. Although he's had his fights, and probably continues to have them, I don't think any of them were actual attempts on his life. Just a way to show in the prison system that his crime is not liked. Then there's Lawrence Gross, who is connected, supposedly, to the Texas Chainsaw massacre's. He has been in the penal system since 1973, and is going strong to this day in Lansing. So to say that Rader will be killed in prison is probably not something that will happen in the Kansas system. Not to say that it won't, but the liklihood is that it will not.

Finally, I would like to say that although he is admittedly guilty of all of his offenses, I can not say that death to him will do any good to the victims. And for people to wish death to him, well, I would say that you are no better than him. Death is death and no-one deserves to die anything except a natural one. I think that people who wish death on another, are as guilty as the person who acts on his wishes to kill, like Rader did. What is America coming to?

That sounds like the people who made up the law "if you sit in a car and someone destroys, robs or kills, and then that someone gets in the car with you, you're just as guilty as the person who destroyed, robbed or killed.

What has America come to? America has always been a mess. I guess in these days and times, the sh*t is just hitting the fan now.

@chintath -- I agree with a piece of what you said -- with no writing utensils, I guess that puts a damper on all the women who were hopeful of writing, falling in love with and then marrying him. There will be others, so they just have to be patient.

********

It would seem since he's done some heinous murders that he'd be incarcerated with other men like him who've committed heineous murder(s). Because they could relate to each other -- having the mindset of a henious murderer -- it would seem they could relate to each other, get along fine, and him possibly then even living a long life.

What do you all think about that?

That it's a very real possibility that DR may have to be placed as a "Special Management" Inmate for the rest of his life. And, yes, I also think that it's also possible that he may meet as nasty an end as Dahmer ultimately faced. It largely depends upon what the KDOC decides as his safer option- releasing him into General Population..or keeping him as a Special Management Inmate...(Meaning in Segregation.)

Interesting side note, It was in the local paper (The Wichita Eagle Beacon) that The family of the victims have already taken legal steps- and succeeded to obtain DR's personal effects that he packed up prior to the move to El Dorado Correctional...- just as Dahmer's and the Unibomber's victims' families did upon their conviction and sentencing. If that's not a parallel, or omen, then I don't know what is! It's entirely possible that he MAY be placed in Special Management for the rest of his natural days...( Comical side note- DR's release date is Feb. 26,2081...) I hope I don't get banned for saying this, but, I hope it's the Carr Brothers ( Two brothers that are also Special Management Inmates- that face death, rather than the 175 years prior to parole eligibility that DR lives with day in and day out, now.) that take him down...then maybe someone else will take THOSE TWO down....wishful thinking...but, one can hope!

Why I say that is I think it's one thing to commit a criminal offense and get sent up for it..BUT to go as far as DR has, or even the Carr Brothers did is entirely beyond the pale in my opinion...SO, I think given the sheer horrific and atrocious nature of his crimes, if the KDOC wants to see Rader serve his sentence as imposed by Judge Waller, then, yeah, they're going to have to keep him Special Management..TOO many inmates either lived THROUGH his initial crime spree and terror fest, or if they heard what came out in the sentencing hearing or plea would pretty much cook his goose in terms of prison justice or culture...essentially making him a marked man, or one with a number on his head, and the biggest and baddest with the stones enough with nothing to loose wouldn't think twice of doing the deed...with any means at his disposal! - And, I, for one, am going to darn well enjoy being nosy on KASPER to see what kind of infractions the idiot gets...( That is after the court decides WHAT terms of incarceration he's going to have to deal with...)- if only for a giggle...
