View Full Version : Avenal To Stop Allowing The Following
TerriB 08-17-2005, 08:45 PM EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2005 (BUT WE ALL KNOW IT COULD CHANGE TOMORROW AS HOW THE CDC IS)
I found out that Avenal is going to stop allowing any books in except from B.Dalton, Barnes and Noble and CD's only from this one website but I forgot the name of it ...
I will be getting the notification this week one day and will let you know exactly which one is it ...
NO LONGER IS AMAZON.COM allowed ... plus a few others which I will list I just wanted to give you a heads up ...
qwerty 08-18-2005, 03:01 AM This must be going on all over CDC... at Pleasant Valley and Lancaster they can only get CDs now in quarterly packages. I like Barnes and Noble... is it because Amazon sells used books too? Or who knows, the infinite wisdom of the CDC... ooops, i mean CDCR..;)
TerriB 08-18-2005, 05:28 PM Ok I received the Memo today and it says the following....
Effective immediately, Amazon Books will no longer be aaccepted as a approved vendor. There have been several occasions through Amazon Books.Com that a second party Vendor or sublet vendor purchase has occurred. Per DOM section 54030.7.1, special purchases must be sentt from departmentally approved, special purchase vendors. Second party vendor purchases are not authorized per CCR section 3138(f)(1). The Institution has not approved these second party vendors. Without approval the security of the source is unknown. As a result these purchases have been disallowed and returned to the sender.
Deliveries from Amazon Books will cease as of September 1,2005. Any deliveries from this vendor from the stipulated date will not be accepted and will be returned to the sender. Any expense resulting in the return of any merchandise is the sole responsibility of the purchaser and not Avenal State Prison.
Any questions regarding this directive contact Sgt in R & R.
That is the memo ----
you are still allowed to send in books from the following ::::::
Barnes and Noble
B. Dalton
Borders
Music is ONLY allowed through approved vendor
Music by Mail.
BLuft 08-18-2005, 10:34 PM Thank you so much for that info. I was gonna order books tonight, glad I read this first. I'm assuming they are still paperback books only! Do you know about quarterly packages? Do those have to be approved and do i need the approval signature before placing an order? Also, how do we get ahold of an order for for music by mail?
Nanoguy 08-19-2005, 07:16 PM My son got there Tuesday, I ordered books from Barnes & Noble for him which should be there this coming Tuesday. I ordered 4 paperback books. They are allowed 10 books total. If they have more than 10 books, they have to give/trade/throw them away.
BLuft 08-19-2005, 08:48 PM Is there a limit on how many books at one time they can receive?
TerriB 08-20-2005, 08:48 PM Bluft,
I answered you in pm and the other post about 10 is correct ...
FrenchFrau 09-05-2005, 02:47 PM Hey, trying to find the website Music by Mail. I'm in Minnesota, so I'm really out of the loop for these 'on the fly' decisions by CDC. Thanks for the heads up. I tried to pull up Music By Mail, and a boat-load of companies come up using that search. HELP. Can you provide the link.
As for the other messaged, AccessOnline is a good one for quarterly packages. you can find more and the link inside the main 'what I need to know' forum areas on the main page.
BLuft 09-05-2005, 04:41 PM FrenchFrau,
I too have been trying to find music by mail. I think the guys have the catalog and send us the order form. But I did find another company and you can dowload their
music catalog and also the order form and send it to your loved one.
http://www.walkenhorsts.com
click on catalogs.
I haven't used them yet, but my husband said they have the catalog in there and also www.californiainmatepackage.com
I have only used access myself.
Hope that helps.

Bob-bi-lu 09-05-2005, 04:55 PM Yup this must must be going on at all the CA prisons because I ordered my man 2 cd's through Amazon.com and they were refused by the prison (CMC) and returned to Amazon. Luckily I got a full refund. I tried ordering him the 2 cd's through Barnes & Nobles so we'll see what happens. I'll keep you all informed if he gets them ok.
TerriB 09-05-2005, 05:44 PM I can't find Music by mail either and Steve said they have the books in there.
Barnes and Noble is one of the ones that are approved as well as is B.Dalton
I haven't sent Steve anything this quarter til he tells me some of what he wants but I will use AccessSecure and phone it in as they tell me then and there what they are out of and what will be substituted for that item.
