well all units are violent to some extent. I was at 29 for a while, and normally B custody is housed there. Most of the workers there are field workers, or processing plant for produce. 29 has 12 units, a-L. Visitation is held in a air conditioned gymnasium. Any other information needed just ask! That was just the basics I think

My boyfriend is in Unit29D, he is A custody so we are not sure why they stuck him in there, hopefully he will be moved soon. I saw him Sunday in the gym, it wasnt bad at all. He told me that things are pretty rough in there compared to other units. We have both heard and read here that 29 and 32 are the worst. But he himself as not had any problems with violence or being bothered.

Very good point! While some people have a hard time getting by in Unit 29, others will have no trouble. In prison you get out of it what you put in, just like in life. While 32 & 29 are the two worst units at Parchman, they both can have there qualities in a way. If he has a good head on his shoulders and stays out of trouble, stays away from gangs, then he should have no trouble.

Good to hear Stansgirl... I hope he does well there. I am sure the "A" custody will make it a little better.

Don was just transferred to Unit 29-I, B custody. He's there for Behavior Modification. Hopefully, I'll hear from him soon, and he'll tell me straight forward how things are.

Tammy, you can not "surprise visit" with him. He will have to send you a visit form and they only can get these done twice a year through their case managers. It will have to be submitted and approved before you can go see him.
May I suggest you go to "Mapquest" and put in your city and zip code and Parchman MS 38738 and that would be the very BEST way to get directions from your area. www.mapquest.com (http://www.mapquest.com)
Hope this helps.. Have you ever visited a prison in MS? LOTS of rules and please visit the PTO websites that will help you with some of the rules and regulations.

Jonathan, since you were in Parchman what advise can you give to a mother who has a son in 29 L? What is the normal time that someone is in lockdown? I have so many questions and am frustrated at the same time. Any words of wisdom that would help me is appreciated.

When I was at Unit 29 - L building wasn't used as lock down - but as Classification for Unit 29.

If he is in lockdown he can be there anywhere from 6 months to 1 year - or longer.

I would suggest sending books and magazines to him. He can receive up to 3 soft back books per month. These must be ordered through a publisher such as www.B&n.com (http://www.B&n.com) or www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com)

NO hardback, no cds or tapes in the books inlcuded.

He is going to have to get himself out of this unit - there is very little that you can do. He needs to have something to occupy his time - and having books or magazines to read - etc. helps greatly.
