My fiance has been out since March and can't get a job, although he was an electrician for 7 years before he went in. I can't have his name on our lease because of his record and we are due to move in 6 weeks, and what will I do then when I can't "hide' him from the leasing agent anymore.
No one will rent to a felon. And no one will hire a felon. We have looked at all the links for Northern Miss/ Memphis, TN with no help at all. He is doing odd jobs now for people we know, but he wants so bad to go back to real work. Does anyone know places that will hire an ex-felon or rent to one in the Memphis, TN area. His crime wasn't a violent one either, but they see prison and say no. I am loosing all hope and it is very hard to stay strong right now for him. I am begging for any new info anyone might have.

The best thing to do is stop hiding him. You may have to keep taking 'no' for awhile, but then someone will say, 'yes' because they either have a good heart, have been there, or knows someone who has. then you will both feel safer and better because you won't be living in fear anymore.
Have you tried the local Unemployment office out there? Here in CA they have job listings all the time, and they also know who will hire felons and who won't. Here, it is against the law to not hire someone if he/she is qualified just because they have a record, unless the job pertains to what he was convicted of. You don't hire an SO to work at a school, and you don't hire a bank robber to work at a bank! lol
Give it a try. One of those No's will lead to a Yes, and a better life for the both of you.
Good Luck :)

If you cannot find the place to hire you, make the job! What does it take to get his certification as an electrician back? If he can fulfill those obligations, work as an independent contractor, start your own firm. Your the boss, he is the technician.
Heck, I wish you guys were closer, I need electrical work done to sell my house, you would have your first contract.
As for a place to rent, don't hide, makes things harder in the short run finding a place, but eliminates future problems if the landlord finds out you lied on the application.
Coming home is hard, now that I look back on my experience, I think it was harder than prison, but you know my family and I are quite proud of my comeback, and the two of you will be of his too!
Nothing worthwhile is ever easy,
Stay strong,

No is always a hard word, ex felon or not. I would suggest maybe contacting a temp employment agency, some "lease" employees out to their regular clients as well as send out temps. An odd contact is the Chamber of Commerce, they can refer you to the local places that hire those with a record, offer to do a seminar on why people should hire ex offenders, you'll be surprised at the turnout.
