hello everyone,
my name is allison, and my husband was sentenced to 20 years in may for 2 counts of manslaughter (drunk driving accident)...i am pretty devastated, but have managed to hold it together pretty well...i have a 1 year old daughter, and my husband and i got together when she was only 3 weeks old, so he considers her his daughter and has totally stepped up to the plate and been a wonderful influence in both of our lives...i don't understand why things have to happen like they do, but i just have to rely on God to carry us through this, and i look forward to the day that we can be a family once again...does anyone know about how long he will really have to be in prison? i've heard anywhere from 6 to 10 years at least...i don't know...i get to go see him tomorrow for the first time in 2 months...can't wait! thanks for letting me share!
Allison

First of all, welcome to PTO. I am sorry to hear about this. I don't know how much time he will have to do. It can be from 60-85% of his time. It varies in different states. You stay encouraged and take one day at a time. Keep the faith and be there for your husband. He really does need you right now. Everyone makes mistakes but you have to learn from them. I am sorry he has to learn the hard way but everything will work out for the best for the both of you. If you need me, PM me. ;)

:grouphug: Hi Allison and welcome to PTO! I don't know the answer either but if there is a DOC website in AL maybe you can look on there and find out how long of the sentence is manditory. I hope you can find something out!~Brandi:)

HELLO allison, glad to hear that the visit went well. and welcome to pto. as for his time, i'm not 100% sure, what i will tell you that my first husband was hit and killed by a young man that had been drinking, he was sentenced to 11 years, he served about 3 years and 7 months all together. I think he got 3 days for every one day he served...I'm not sure how all that works, but i'll look into it and see if i can find out for you.

again, welcome to PTO, you are very lucky to have found the wonderful group of people that are ALWAYS avail to lend a help hand, or ear and support you during these trying times.

I also urge you to, to share any information you learn with us as well...knowledge is power...

we all look forward to getting to know ya!!

take care

Denise

Just wanted to welcome you to PTO and to the Alabama forum. I know that this time in your life is very difficult. But you don't have to face it alone. As a "survivor" of having a loved one in an Alabama prison, I just wanted to let you know that PTO saved my sanity (what little I had!).

I'm glad your visit went well and your guy is very fortunate to have you on his side. Take care and hang in there. We're here for you!
