A modern establishment designed and constructed in a single phase on a green field site acquired from the Ministry of Defence.
The site already accommodated HMP Featherstone and opened in November 1991. In 2002 two additional education blocks were built.

Accommodation: 4 Residential Units, each with a C N A of 112, split into 8 wings:
Alder House - Juveniles Induction and Remands
Beech House - Sentenced Juveniles
Residential 3 - YO Trials and Sections
Residential 4 - YO Inductions and Remands
Single cells are sometimes used for dual occupancy. All have integral sanitation, television and electricity. Induction and Through care Support Unit accommodates all new arrivals for up to 3 days while induction, assessment and DTO/ OASys are undertaken. Health care centre with in-patient accommodation.
Operational Capacity: 493 as of 1st May 2005
Reception Criteria: Unconvicted and convicted 18-21 years (YOIs). Unconvicted and convicted 15-18 years (Juveniles)
