Ok I was just wondering why it is sooooo hard for children with parents in prison to get help from the state? I mean my husband said he would gladly give up his social security so it could go to our daughter and help me with our expenses but they don't allow that. I mean yeah I know the sentiment of they are paying for their crimes and yadda yadda but my god these are innocent children who have to suffer in more ways then one but to not help them is ridiculous!! We have to live with my parents til my husband gets out cause I can not afford to pay for rent, food and all other bills and work for me and my daughter and I get no assistance other then health care for her, thank god for that, cause other wise she would be without that even. It is just so hard to make it financially and mentally and boy the system doesn't do anything but make that ever more of a mess.
I just had to rant for a bit sorry!:D

Tereasa,
You are so right....I think the state's view the families as less than too as we're with the convicted person...Just my opinion..

I know how you're feeling. My man is still racking up child support payments as well. $80/week. Yet he's in prison and I can't get them to put a freeze on his account. HELLO he can't pay has no job!!!! And 4 times my daughter has been cut off medicaid cuz I get a job. Not a job with insurance, just a regular 'ol job and here we sit everytime she has to go to the docs they stick it in my butt. Sometimes I just wonder what they are thinking. I don't ask for money or food stamps ,just medical. I haven't even bothered to ask for the babysitter help. I'm afraid then they'll want even more from him.

Stacy,
There is a Supreme Court ruling in Michigan that an inmate's child support can be frozen on the date he goes in and started on the date he comes out. We got my husband's stopped.....You have to go to court to do it..

Deb, did you need an attorney to petition the court to stop the child support while your husband was incarcerated?
Holly
We had a court hearing as his ex was trying to get ME to have to pay the child support. I had no clue at the time about this Supreme Court ruling. The attorney I hired found it and used it in court. We could have used it without an attorney and won as well.....I didn't know anything about this at the time and was freaking and pissed so I hired an attorney..

I completely understand!!!!!!!!!! I am currently working 2 jobs just so that I can support my daughter. He father is currently serving a 3 year prison sentence with 17 months to go. The only assistance that I am able to receive is medical, don'tget me wrong, I am extremely grateful for that assistance. however, that doesn't help feed her or put clothes on her back. Is there any type of financial help for us parents who have a child with a parent in prison???????????
