hello
I am looking for someone who knows more about the USP Terre Haute in IN.
My best friend was transferred from WI to SD for a court hearing. All expected he will be back in WI after and now I found him yesterday on the bop.gov site in IN. He was never maximum before. So I am really worry and don't know why, but will call the prison to find out more.
I have not found any informations about this USP. Mail, Visits (contact visits?), how to send money, how to drive to there etc.
I would appreciate every information very much.
thank you for your help!
kind regards
toja

Hey,
I have been there for a total of three times. When you are added on the inmate's visiting list, you will be sent a letter explaining the rules and regulations regarding visitation. After arriving in the visiting hall, there are several rows of chairs facing two guards in the front. They are very strict about the amount of physicla contact between inmate and visitor. The good thing is that you will be able to sit right next to him. You are allowed to kiss and hug when you greet and exit. During all other times, he must remain seated and the amount of physical contact is very restricted. Even thought the rules are strict, the environment is comfortable enough for you to enjoy your visit. Keep in mind is the prison is in a deserted area. There aren't any major airports in that direct area, and the greyhound is closer. As far as sending money, you have to get money orders from the "US Post Office" and ensure that you include his DOC number on it. The mailing address is PO Box 33, Terre Haute, In 47808, and make sure that you have his Federal DOC number beside his name in the correct format 00-000-000. As far as driving directions, go to mapquest.com and get directions from your home to zip code 47808. This will but you on the main street. After you take the ramp to Terre Haute, you will make a right at the light, make a left on Hulman St., a right to cross rail road tracks, make a left, continue down the road for a few miles, and you will see a sign on your right for USP-make a right and the guards will walk you through the rest of the process... Good Luck. I hope that you see your friend soon...

Hi toja,

Since you had some specific visitation questions for the Federal facility in Terre Haute, I have moved this thread to the Federal forum so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions... AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too. :)

You also might want to thumb thru the Federal forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:

The Indiana forum may be helpful too:

Hope you find the info you're looking for and good luck! :)
