Hey All!

So I'm finally here and just barely moved in and my man called and told me he got a transfer slip. I moved here so we can visit him every week and when he comes home next year the kids won't have a strange man just showing up and saying 'Daddy's home'. I'm only about 30 minutes away from Mule Creek right now and I think Avenal is about 3 1/2 hours away. It's not a big deal for me but that makes for a really long day for the kids.

Anyway, he said he talked to his councler and she would recommend that he stay. Does that actually work? Will he stay? Should I just trust that he will stay or is there more I should be doing? Any and all suggestions and comments would really be appreciated.

Now that the CDC changed it's name to include Rehabilitation, let's see if they follow thourgh and try to keep a family together!

Thanks!

Bec

I have heard it what the counsler recommends and what is done is two different things. I also know of people who took there complaints to the governors office had things fixed within two hours. PM me if you would like more info.

There are times when the Counselor can put a name at the bottom of the endorsement list ( pretty much what's done when they recommend they Not move) and it works more than half the time. I FREAKED:eek: when they were going to move my love another 4 hours further away ( already a 3 1/2 + hour trip) and while they don't recognize "hardship" or "familial ties" as it was intended, it does linger beneath the surface for those that have a bit of compassion, and my love's counselor just kept moving his name to the bottom.
Another little "trick": If your hunny puts in medical slips ( even eye or dentist visits work) they won't move him until he finishes all appts. By that time, usually, the moves have stopped, and you are clear.
I know none of this is an "official" way to do things, but it worked for us...
Good Luck

Chris is being moved to Avenal too. They are making a whole new SNY there. Our trip is over 3 1/2 hours long, and this move will only cut off about 10 minutes  .

I really hope your guy isn't moved. 3 1/2 hours will be so hard on the girls.

My son was moved to Avenal on Tuesday. He is SNY. Says it's a dump. (Being the polite person he is) He came from NKSP. Apparently, when he got to NKSP the counselor told him Avenal was #1 choice, and Mule Creek was #2. He asked them to switch those priorities (then I'd only have to drive 1 1/2 hours instead of 3). Well, he got Avenal because apparently Mule Creek's SNY is being closed.
San Quentin also has an entire SNY yard and I don't know what's happening there, though I do know they are not taking "new" commits from Santa Clara County, and are in the process of shutting down the R&R there to go strictly mainline.
I'm sure there will be more later.

Ya, my husband has been at Avenal-sny for a week now. He said the food is worse than CSATF but the lock downs are pretty non-existent, so that is a blessing...He said he is disappointed to, it's not what the brochure pictures looked like....heeeheee
But they get yard and the phones usage is strict.

Building 5 gets no visitors this weekend at all. Yes, the food is not great, but they had pancakes for breakfast this morning, and, they were good.

okay someone please tell me what SNY stands for ( i feel a little dumb like i should know). My fiance' is up for a move to Avenal though he has asked to be allowed to stay where he is. His classification requires him to be moved to a level II now which seems to anoy me a little. They gave him a life sentence for attempted murder (which he didnt do), they keep moving him down due to classifications but they deny his parole, it gets very frustrating.

SNY= Special needs yards.
The food will get better (if it's possible come winter time and off the sack lunches) this is the first time they have gone to those

Yard 5 has a lot of lockdowns, due to the issue of north/ south stuff from what I know ...

Apparently 510 and 530 southerns and whites got into it during the week and about 20 were transferred to Delano II. They're still sorting it out.

SNY=Special Needs Yard although you will hear the "green team" refer to it as "Sensitive" Needs Yard as well as wanting to know where the Kleenex is for the snivelers. (their words, not mine).

is green team the CO's?

Yes........The Big Green wall. The COs consider themselves the "green team" and the inmates the "blue team" for obvious and apparent reasons.

Hi everyone. The friend that I have in Avenal is in 530 (or maybe he was:confused: ) I wondered why I didn't get any calls this weekend. Very unusual. Of course I hope he is ok. I would appreciate any more info that anyone hears. Thank you.

There were no serious injuries during the scuffle from what I am told.

Just got a call from my son in Avenal and he tells me they got (yesterday) 40+ inmates from CSATF into the SNY (3 yard). He says it's all good because they want to maintain a peaceful place to finish out their time. They are volunteers (for the transfer) and are long termers who will be able to help fill all the job openings that are available in 3 yard.

Just an update.... In spite of our best efforts he was transferred today. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and we will be able to visit Labor Day weekend.

Hey my husband is in the sny ahe he is there because he had a brain tumor in 1999 and is still under treatment for it. his doctors do not want him to be hit in the fhead or have any problems, so thats where he is. He did not ask to go there and he is not a cry baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm trying to figure out why their were labeled cry babies too. That must be an inside joke between the CO's that got so blown out of proportion that it is pretty ridiculous..but at least we know the truth!
From what I hear, most of the sny guys are really mellow like what Nano said. They do just want to finish their time. The politics are alot less their and "most" of them have alot of respect for everyone else. I don't think my husband would have made this much of a positive change and improvement if he was gp.

5 yard is off of lockdown now and they are allowed to call and have visits this weekend. Well that is the way it stands as of right now ... Enjoy your calls and visits this upcoming weekend.
