View Full Version : First Visit at Gurney Unit-Texas Prison
freespirit76870 07-19-2005, 09:50 AM Hello Everyone,
I have been reading all the threads and have learned so much valuable info from you all. It's my first tiem haveing a loved one in prison.
I recently went to visit my husband at the Gurney Unit. He is doing 10 years on a agg. sex assult case. It was the first time I have been there and wanted to share my first visit with all of you.
I was amazed at the kindness I was greeted with. Everyone there was very helpful. They searched my truck going in and out. I guess to see if I had stuffed him in there somewhere.(i wish) They did not give me a hard time on anything.
My Husband says there going on Lockdown the 18th of this month, I guess they do this 2 times a year.
He will be moved to another unit at some point they said. We are not sure what to expect but would like to help any one out there if I can. You all have been a wonderful source for me. Thank you all very much.
jftazzy102 07-19-2005, 09:56 AM So glad that you had a wonderful experience with your visit....That is such great news to hear
freespirit76870 07-19-2005, 11:49 AM I hate to sound stupid, but being my first post, can anyone tell me how to get that ticker factory to work i have tried and it tells me error on here? thank you
vim1946 07-19-2005, 01:35 PM Looks to me like it's working for you! I am glad you had such a great experience. My husband is at Eastham Unit with a 40 year bid for Aggravated Sexual Assault. We are hoping to end this nightmare soon since his daughter is now an adult and can testify that she was coerced in to saying anything and that he didn't do it!
freespirit76870 07-20-2005, 08:15 AM 40 years? wow I can I should be grateful for only 10 years uh? I hope all works out for you and your family. Im learning that this is a very long and diffuclt road to follow. I will give my support where I can.
Gos Bless you and your family
ddp24 07-20-2005, 10:00 AM Hello
My husband is also at Gurney he has been there for almost a year and they say they can keep him for up to another year. After three months you get contact visits. Your right the people at Gurney are very friendly but let me tell you those benches in the contact room are extremely hard on your behind. Where in TX are you?
BlakesMom 07-20-2005, 01:38 PM My son was at Gurney transfer unit and the people there were very good. He was however moved this morning to Bradshaw in Henderson....anyone know anything about it...I know it is private run, but that is all
vim1946 07-20-2005, 02:12 PM Hard benches? Guess we shouldn't complain about the metal folding chairs in the contact room at Eastham!

Babylove135 08-29-2005, 10:00 PM Tina I would share a ride with you but by the time you got to me we'd almost be there! Wish I could help more. Uh oh I forgot my question... oh yeah is the general visit 2 hours also or just the contact visit? Or do I have it backwards?? I am so confused. I a new to all this prison mess and hopefully won't have to learn too much before he gets out. I just hope he stays a Gurney Unit for a while.
BrandNewGirl 08-30-2005, 05:34 AM All visits are 2 hours, unless you request a special visit if you are over 300 miles away. Then those are 4 hours each day (Sat and Sun).
