Hello I am most likely being sent to a Federal Boot Camp when I am sentenced. Do you have any insights of what it is like and what they do all day. Also I am 340lbs right now.... Do you think I should prepare myself by getting into shape? I have no idea what a camp is and if I am from California will I go a camp in California. My lawyer says even if they sentence me to 30 months i will only have to do 12 months if allowed to go to boot camp. He said 4 months camp, 4 moths halfway house, and 4 months hopme detention. Does this sound right?? Thanks for all your help. InboundTrain.

Hi Inbound Train
First thing first, welcome to the PTO family :)
I moved your post to the "Road to prison" forum, where you might get more answers to your questions. We have some ex-cons on PTO, and hopefully they will do their best to give you some informations.
Here's the link to the Federal system forum, I think you can already find some answer to your questions here:

All my best wishes, and be sure we're here for you !!

I also may be serving time in a federal boot camp, and although you may request to go to the facility in california, there is also another in Pennsylvania. It just depends on where this is space for you. And your numbers are off. If you are sentanced to 30 you would get a 6 month reduction off of your sentance entirely and the rest would look like this:
6 Months at boot camp
3-6 months in a half way house
Remainder of 24 month sentance served on house arrestso most likely another 12-15 months.
Remember federal time is different, it is nearly impossible to get sentance reductions outside of the 15% for good behavior and 10% in community corrections. This was all told to me by my lawyer and I have some paper work about the camp. If I were you I would try to start running, quit smoking, do alot of push ups and sit ups as it is supposed to be much like the military, in that they use alot of physical work to break you down mentally. I guess the program is very rigorous and the graduation rate is low, around 1/3 from what I hear. Best of luck to you, I hope I get the camp in CA, the weather is MUCH nicer there during the time of year I would be serving my sentance about september to about february.

Yea its generally 2-3 months from sentancing. It all depends on how slow the system is in your area, how focused they are on your case etc. good luck!

My friend pled guilty to federal charges in Feb. and he will be sentenced in July. From there he has approximately 3 weeks to get his 'stuff' in order and then he surrenders to federal custody...most likely at Fort Dix.

When I was sentenced - I got a 5month deferal because of my wife's pregnancy - and the fact that I have 4 kids on top of this one.
The judge made it EXTREAMLY clear that they only give 2 week self surrender frames -- but maybe that is just where I was done-in. Good luck though
I got 18mo's - How can I apply for boot? I already did Navy boot 8 years ago - so hopefully this should be ok then.

Welcome to PTO, glad to have you both here!
I can't answer all your questions but wanted to offer a link or two. THis first one is just some information on ICC Lompoc, boot camp in CA. From what I understand they run 4 different groups....as one graduates, a new one comes in. That could be part of the waiting time.

There is more on Boot Camps (federal). If you use the advanced search button and search in the federal forum only, you will come up with quite a few. You may need to sort through them.
Hope you find the answers you seek!

Hello there everyone. If anyone could answer my question... Is there a difference from "Boot Camp" to Fort Dix Camp? Thanks.
