This was from the Daily Review, buried on page 6 in the local section of Tuesday's paper:

Santa Rita inmate hangs himself

DUBLIN - Santa Rita county jail officials say an inmate left a suicide note Sunday before hanging himself with a bed sheet in his cell.
A sheriff's deputy working the morning "feed" shift about 7:30am found Paul Alvarez, 36, of San Jose on his knees in the cell he occupied alone, said Alameda County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jim Knudsen.

It goes on to say these things but I'm paraphrasing now:

The inmate was in a cell by himself "for no specific reason."
The incident is the first suicide at Santa Rita since May 1 of last year.
They have 50,000 inmates a year go through there and only about 4 or 5 suicides.
They say there was no foul play in his death due to him being alone in his cell and a note being present.

OK, how obvious is this to you guys that this was staged??
The guy was a parole violator in on a DUI. C'mon, you don't kill yourself over that. I can see very depressed or embarassed but not suicidal. It's incidents like these that make me very leary of our justice system.

Isn't there always!?! But then again (devil's advocate here) it depends how much time he was facing.

If the guy was an alcoholic there could have been some mental illness too.

It does sound a little suspisious. They probably won't even investigate it considering it's an inmate and they 'claim' that he hung himself. So sad.

Yes, it is sad. How easy could this be one of our loved ones?

sounds questionable to me too. Do you guys remember the Frank Valdez case? They said he commited suicide, while he was beaten to death by CO's...

Really Soraya? I haven't heard of him. It's a shame how they treat inmates. Just because they are in because of the way they live their lives they are still human. Someone like Jeffrey Dahmer on the other hand deserved it.

well, the thing with Frank Valdez is, the co's said he commited suicide by jumping of his bunkbed onto the concrete? but they couldn't explain the bootprint in his face...because only co's wear these boots...

Has anyone been to Santa Rita? This is the county I live in and I am just curious. I have a fear of jail/prison that I would like to get over and I am here to pound it on the head and get over it. Thanks!
