View Full Version : Has anyone had problems with Great Plains corr. in Hinton? UPDATE
tinab1221 07-17-2005, 03:01 AM My fiancee got into some trouble and got his visitation knocked down to one hour a week behind glass, so he told me not to come and see him until it went back to 2 hours a week and contact visits well this weekend was his first weekend where we could have them. So I drove 2 hours only to get there and be told i was no longer on his visiting list. The only answer they could give me was 1 he took me off or 2 for some reason the case manager took me off and of course he wasnt there. I knew he didnt take me off when I got home I had a letter waiting in the mail box saying how excited he was about getting to finally see me again after all this time. Anyways I spent 2 hours on the phone with a lady trying to figure out why i was no longer on his list, only to be told to call back at 3 and then told at 3 to call back at 4 only to get some jerk who told me everyone was gone who could help me and he couldnt tell me if i was on his visiting list or not. I called back today and was told that I still wasnt on his list. Has this happened to anyone else or am I the only one they have made look stupid
ldysirois 07-17-2005, 10:05 AM I would get ahold of his case manager Monday and ask what the heck is going on. Is there any chance they were looking at the wrong list?
So Sorry for you I hope it gets cleared up, I'd over night a letter to him too and ask him if he knows anything.
tinab1221 07-17-2005, 12:26 PM I just got off the phone with him and he didnt take me off his list and is really upset that im not on there. His casemanager is a real jerk but i will be calling first thing Monday morning. If i have to fill out another visiting form it will take god only knows how long, it took them almost 2 months to get me on his list before. pray that it gets taken care of before next weekend. Thanks
docwatchdog 07-17-2005, 02:36 PM Hinton has a history of removing non family visitors when an inmate is busted down to level one or two
ldysirois 07-17-2005, 02:54 PM What gives them the right to do this, I don't think anywhere in DOC rules and regs. it states this. I guess this needs to be reported to internal affairs and get there hand slapped!
docwatchdog 07-17-2005, 05:53 PM It only states that at certain level non family can not visit, so they remove them so they can't visit and if he just got his level back they just hadn't gotten around to adding them back on. They have been doing that for years and no one has gotten their hand slapped yet
missofficer2u 07-17-2005, 05:58 PM Policy, rules, regulations and post orders are guide lines only. There is a loop hole for everything. Nothing within D.O.C. is set in stone.
samsfi 07-17-2005, 08:08 PM Unfortunate as it is visitation is considered priviledge and not a right. It doesnt matter what they have in writing etc. If they decide not to let someone in for whatever reason the wind has blown in-- You're not getting in. Just remember when you call to find out what's going on they will already have that attitude-- so take a deep breath and realize it may take a bit of time to get it all ironed out. (hopefully not!) Make sure before you make the trip again you have names or something in writing with you (not that it will give you any guarentee but it can help at times!) I know because I have soooooooooooo totally been there myself on this one! Best of luck!
tinab1221 07-17-2005, 11:00 PM He got his level knocked down but i was still able to visit him being non-family and all. I went and had one of those wonderful one hour behind glass using the phone visits and after that he said forget that just wait until he gets his level back. thank everyone for your support and advise. I pray that after I call and do my very best to smile at there attitudes that it will be taken care of. keep us in your prayers..
tinab1221 07-18-2005, 04:04 PM update
Noone seems to know why I am no longer on his visiting list, i have talked to his case manager and he had no idea i wasnt on there. He said he would get around to putting me back on and when i asked if i would be able to visit this weekend he said call on thursday.
tinab1221 07-19-2005, 12:04 PM I talked to the case manager today and he tells me when they went to put me back on the visiting list that the warden denied me. He told me he didnt have to give a reason and it didnt matter that i was already on his visiting list i had to be put back on so it had to go across the wardens desk and he denied it. 2 years of visiting him and now i have to wait 6 months before i can even be considered to visit him. Not looking real good for our wedding date. guess that the wonderful prison system has taken away not only our visits but our vows also. :(
ldysirois 07-19-2005, 07:38 PM Have you called Oklahoma city? The main DOC, I would think someone would have to give a reason! This sounds strange to me.
tinab1221 07-19-2005, 08:34 PM No for the most part of today i have been in shock. I dont want to do anything that will get my man in trouble.

samsfi 07-19-2005, 11:36 PM I am so sorry to hear that. Trust me I went through my own visitation nightmare a while back--- I wish I knew what to tell you to do-- I got mine fixed but almost everytime I go they seemed pissed I could prove I wasnt a five time convicted felon (oh and that popped up suddenly after over a year of visitation and many of them at their facility) and I sit there for 10 minutes on pins of needles while they scrutinize the file and try to find some other reason not to let me in. All you can try to do is fight it-- and you seem to already know to use caution in doing so. Best of luck-- I'm here if you need an ear to vent!:grouphug:
tinab1221 07-19-2005, 11:40 PM Its not fair. I dont even know why the warden wont let me back on, i guess if i knew a reason then i would feel alittle better about it. What makes it even worse is the fact that the chaplin and i had made all the arrangments for us to get married now since i cant go and visit we wont be getting married. thanks everyone for being here for me through this bull.
tinab1221 07-20-2005, 02:01 PM I received a letter from the case manager saying that my visiting form had been denied reason "BY PER WARDEN". I have wrote the warden a letter asking why this was allowed to happen im sure it wont be answered.
samsfi 07-20-2005, 04:48 PM I wish you luck-- just realize that honestly I'm not sure they have to have a reason-- and half the time when they do it's not really viable. I wish you luck - so hang in there and let us know how this turns out!!!!!

tinab1221 07-21-2005, 02:13 AM Thank you I will contact her tomorrow.
tinab1221 07-22-2005, 01:24 AM Well after being on the phone for the most part of the day, I was only able to find out that noone at the prison knows why i was ever taken off or the reason i was able to get back on the visiting list. Julie said it seems that eveyone is placing the blame on someone else, but now the asst. warden is looking into it, she called me after Julie talked with her, she told me that she is the one who makes the final say so on who is approved and who is denied so she will figure out who denied me and get it taken care of she said is not promiseing that i will be back on his visiting list but she will find out who denied me and why they did. I should hear back from her by monday keep us in your prayers.
freckledgrl 07-22-2005, 10:56 AM They don't make anything easy, do they. I'm hoping you get your answers and fixed up soon, but you shouldn't have to jump through all these hoops...grr.
tinab1221 07-23-2005, 11:57 PM Well I guess I should feel grateful, I got approved for a one time visit. Still no one knows why I was removed or denied. Guess I wont ever know. Im goin to make the drive up tomorrow and pray that they have the paperwork, i have a copy of it. wish me luck
tinab1221 07-24-2005, 11:51 AM and once again was sent on my way. they told me that the paperwork i had must not of been put in the computer because there was nothing saying i could come and visit. once again they have won, but the battle isnt over just yet.
ldysirois 07-24-2005, 05:13 PM Oh this is so wrong, Keep fighting dear !! Wishing you luck!
Majickgem 07-24-2005, 11:29 PM Keep your head up Tinab. Good things come to those who wait. and they love making us wait. I didn't get to see mine this weekend either, so I'm feeling your pain. I think that they all have major communication problems at all of the facilities cause our friend had just talked to his case manager on Friday and she said that everything was good and that his fine was all the punishment he was going to get and when I got there yesterday we had a non-contact visit so I didn't get to see my man. The crazy thing about it is Thursday and last week he got to draw down for level 2comm. Makes sense huh? I know I'm going nuts since they are on lockdown too and neither one of them is able to call me.

tinab1221 07-27-2005, 12:45 PM UPDATE
talked to my man last night and he has all the paperwork for "our special one time visit" he had to set a time and date and was told if i dont show up at that time then he will have to go through the paperwork again. Keep you fingers crossed that all the paperwork stays where it is suppose to be and that when i go up on friday @ 930 they wont tell me some bs and send me home. This maybe our only visit for god only knows how long.
tinab1221 07-28-2005, 10:58 PM I got a reply from the warden, it says your visiting form has been approved for a one time special visit inmate may resubmit in six months a request to have you aded to his visitation approval list. No reason nothing. 1 visit for 6 months i guess that is better then none. :(
tinab1221 07-29-2005, 01:23 PM UPDATE: I got up there and wouldnt you know i wasnt in the computer so after calling everyone and there uncle i finally got the say that it was ok for our one time special visit. i got to see my baby it was the fastest 2 hours i have ever lived. he is going to find out who else is a notary and get the proxy paper signed so we can hurry and get married. but im sure they will give us trouble even after were married. thanks everyone for hearing me vent. i know how much we all love DOC:) lol
