View Full Version : Easter Egg Hunt at the Prison!
danielle 04-21-2003, 04:26 PM Yesterday during visitation there was an Easter Egg hunt for the kids. Each child got an Easter basket with candy and they had an Easter Egg hunt with prize eggs. There was bicycles, skate boards, dolls, etc. There wound up being enough big prizes, so each child got one. The kids were laughing and running, trying to find eggs. It was so cute and funny.
To top it all off - one of the prisoners was dressed up as the Easter Bunny (pink fuzzy tail and all).
The prizes, baskets and rabbit costume rental was paid for by the prisoners. They did an excellent job!
We were also entertained by the prison band - and they kicked butt. It was a very awesome visit. I don't know the warden's name, but he allowed some beautiful memories to be made yesterday.
flygirlaa2 04-21-2003, 04:28 PM That is so sweet.
KRIS_NC 04-21-2003, 04:36 PM ITS GOOD TO HEAR THINGS LIKE THIS
~cheenna~ 04-21-2003, 05:08 PM Just when you think it ain't possible ... "they" go and do something resembling the milk of human kindness for the guys. This warden really must be something, I will pray that his heart is left open to further decent treatment of the guys. One would think they would look upon activity such as this as a major security risk. Truely awesome ... kudos and high fives to Wayne and all the other guys.
thanks for sharing ...
Cameo 04-21-2003, 05:41 PM Wow, this is great Monica! I was smiling at the picture you painted~I'm glad to hear that you and Wayne has a nice Easter!
Pam:)
Lysbeth 04-21-2003, 05:43 PM Oh, how nice, Monica. That's great that they let them do that. Kudos to that warden...
That sounds great!! Sounds like it would be worth finding out the wardens name and sending a letter of appreciation. I think things like that are so important to mental well being of all involved!! I wish more would follow suit.

LilPinkWitch 04-21-2003, 07:01 PM How wonderful... Who would have thought it of the DOC... I wish I could have seen it, it must have been a site to behold... With lots of happy kids and a "prisoner"dressed as the easter bunny how cool...
danielle 04-21-2003, 07:28 PM They did something very similar at Christmas. One of the prisoners was Santa and they handed out candy canes, along with other presents. They are pretty good about including the innocent children in holidays. It also helps make "daddy" a hero. ;)
DENIMBLUE 04-21-2003, 07:42 PM :) SO NICE FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES TO SHARE SOMETHING POSITIVE, COOL WARDEN! :)
Soul SLiver 04-21-2003, 07:44 PM Note To Gray Davis:
Stop paying so much attention to the guards paychecks and put some effort into making prison visiting as nice as that!
Man, I wish they would do that out here!
Wow! I can't even imagine that in a prison! That is so good though! Too bad more didn't do stuff like that......A letter to this warden would be really good...

Hilde Bogaerts 04-22-2003, 08:10 AM Oh whawh!!!!! This is one great story!! See, some wardens can be human. I love things like this.
SCLady 04-22-2003, 09:12 AM That is cool!
Good Deal ! :)
yanigirl 04-22-2003, 11:12 AM That sounds like a great visit. I wish more facilities thought to do things like this. I think these kinds of things are important to their rehabilitation.
praise4himnok 04-24-2003, 02:02 PM That is so great!! Where my husband is at in Oklahoma the prisoners made sacks with something eastery on it and it was full of candy for each of the kids. Then they had some of the guys taking the family polaroid shots and you could also buy really pretty carnations. My husband is in the father's club @ Boley and they are going to have a special visit day for the father's club dads the Friday before Father's Day. There is suppose to be water games and all kinds of activities for the dad's and their children. I am really looking forward to it.
Thank you for sharing. You really put a smile on my face.
sqbound 04-25-2003, 04:40 PM I just want to let you know that you and Wayne are so lucky to have a warden like that. That man is an angel among us.
I also want to thank you for the link so I could write him. I just wish more wardens would follow his lead.

Shortie 04-26-2003, 09:54 PM Those are the moments I love to hold on to during all this maddness and pain. It is sometimes just a small event that makes such a big impact. That is why I try to focus on the good and not the bad so much. Makes life more with living everyday I am apart from my soulmate and best friend, my husband Ant. Hold on to that moment even if it is for the families that got to join in and exspecially for those who did not as there families have not gotten additional members YET!!! :)
mrsharris 04-29-2003, 08:08 AM We will never see anything like that in Texas.
Kenneth Oneil - KO1 04-29-2003, 08:28 AM Well this sure is upbeat and encouraging to hear. What better way to help rehabilitate those incarcerated than to allow them to offer personal funds for community projects or to provide children at visitation with gifts and fun. By helping others they certainly help themselves.
that sure put a smile on my face. :)
Mistify 08-14-2004, 09:19 PM Which Prison is that How Cool Is it in California probably not
