I was just wondering what kind of training is offered to inmates in Michigan? My honey has spent a great deal of time in prison (14 yrs) and he basically doesn't have any job skills other than what he's learned working in there. I don't think it's fair to him or anyone for that matter to not have some sort of trade for when he is released. I know he has more to add so I'll post that as soon as he sends his comments on this subject. Does anyone know of a prison that offers job training? Maybe he could be transferred there if possible. Thanx and God Bless!

I know they offer some sort of job training and certification. One of my friends was certified in floor stripping/waxing and another was certified in something strange to where he now works for the county and drives the mosquito spaying trucks. I'm not sure if they only offer these in certain facilities or how it works, but hope it helps.

I think that each facility offers differnt things. You can look on the MDOC website under prisons and camps to see what types of things they offer for jobs but it is pretty general stuff.

MANY of the programs are being dropped AND what few they have left have long waiting lists. He should talk to his counselor and see whats available to him.
