I have taken my stuff to maaco a few times.... though one time i went into get an estimate & they told me i should just run the car into the ground & then get a newer one.....

Though last time i took a car in with my mirror hanging, they didnt fix my mirror properly, just refastened it on & said i didnt request it to be fixed....

So make sure you are clear about what you want done & expect to be without the car for about a week.....

Also be sure to take some one with you that appears to know what they are talking about & is male.... I know its sad... but aint it the truth... most of the time....

Where do you live that maaco is so far away....??? :p

I will show you some pics.... the white one is the one they told me to run into the ground, the blue is the before, the black is the after....

hmmm, those pics seem like they did a good job

but its funny your brought them up, cuz just this week in school, this guy was telling us NOT to go to Maaco, they did a lousy job on his car...........they didn't even clean it first, so you can see little pieces of dirt, etc..under the new paint job........but again, thats just his encounter w/them.........i've never dealt w/them........its probably important to find someone w/experience at the one your going to, no?

Personally, I'd stay away from Maaco. When I was in autoshop class the teacher compared them to "Earl Sheives," good only for a "5/50" paintjob -- looks good from 5 feet away, at 50 miles per hour. ;)

My sense has been that they're sort of like Best Buy is for car stereo installs -- if all you need is something basic they can follow Step 1 - Step 6 like anyone else for their $11.50/hour, but if you want something done right / quality, look elsewhere.

You've probably got a good shop in the area with good people, whose business survives on their reputation built on quality workmanship (vs. a national chain bringing 'em in with $$$ spent on advertising).

You might call your insurance company and see if there's anyone they recommend, ins. companies usually have the line on who does quality work for the lowest $ (since it's in the InsCo's interest to not have pissed off customers but to spend the least amount possible).

Of course, I had my Jeep done by the dealership's body shop and they screwed the pooch (the paint chipped off the grill almost immediately, and it took 6 trips back to the shop before they got all the little stuff right, like, a hose hanging out of the engine bay, daylight visible through missing bolts on the interior...), and even Golden Hammer (the shop Beverly Hills Porsche sends all of their work to) screwed up some aspects of my other car, so you never can tell really... :(

If it's his pride and joy, I'd take it to someone who will care enough to see it done right, probably an indie. Might even cost the same!
