Hey everyone! :wave: How are all of our Arizona members doing these days? I hope to hear everyone is well. Things are good with me. Not much new-just going to school and working and looking forward to the weekends so I can see my husband :) I had a week off from school and I went to Disneyland this past week and it was lots of fun!! :D
How is everyone's loved one doing? Any visits planned soon for anyone? Does anyone have a vacation planned for the summer?

Hello Arizona Members.....

This month is a pretty busy month for me...actually I've been staying very busy with work! My son will be returning home tommorow from his trip to Minnesota. I will be going to visit my husband in Oklahoma the weekend of the 23rd:) WOOOHOOO...it seems like forever since the last visit and then the following week I will have relatives coming from Illinois, we'll be taking a trip to the coast and also taking in some of the sites of San Antonio:D

Other than that life is pretty good can't complain...my husband is doing great!

I can't believe it's already the middle of July...school will be starting again before ya know it! Hope everyone is doing well. Have a safe and happy summer!

Dales'friend....I'm glad you are keepin yourself busy. Schooling (education) is always a plus anytime in life and I'm glad you are doing well at it. Disneyland! WOW! Did you go on all the rides? I grew up in CA and went there a couples of times every year. Then raising kids still went after become an adult too. But that was ummmmm alot of years ago. I bet it has changed alot since then. I want to thank you for always keeping things going for us on here. I really appreciate it.

Mel.... gee you are really busy! Have fun and enjoy.

As for me, it's the same ole thing. Work, chores and wait to see my honee every 3 months. I go to church and have dinner once in awhile with friends. But other then that, that's it. Don't get me wrong, I don't know if I could handle anything else right now! I still have to take things in my life one day at a time.

well I have been doing very well, this past week at Disneyland was super fun! :p I am printing out pictures right now of our trip, for my hubby! :yes:

I saw my baby yesterday and i miss him so much already, but then I always do. I have one more week of summer break before going back to work, i work for a school district so i get about 6 weeks off this time of year. :thumbsup:

Yikes Mel! Did you get that heater looked at so nothing can happen again in the future?

Dale'sforever.....I fly. It would probably take 9 to 10, maybe 11 hours driving and I can't sit that long due to my back. Flying is about an hour and 15 minutes. Costly but saves time and pain. But when I go I stay for 4 days. So that's nice.

My freezer (in the garage) alarm went off yesterday. In all the years I have had it it has never gone off. I didn't know how to get it turned off! It was loud! I called GE and they looked it up. Ended up having to remove the bottom front panel to find a switch for it. It seems like it's working ok. I hope I don't come home from work one day and everything is thawed and smelling! Yuk! I stock up on sale stuff and also cook and freeze stuff for when I forget to take something out in advance for dinner.

No chances of the heater catching fire again....I won't be using it tis year or any year after that...it's outta here! Something was wrong with it....I just got it this past year and the last time i used it I had a problem distinguishing it...well the other day one of the kids had stepped on the on switch by accident and it turned on and would not turn off...the flames were coming out the top and the sides and it was smoking really bad...all I could think is that it was gonna blow up:eek: ...I was so scared!

But anyways its gone for good, I should probably write the company and ask them whats up...why it malfunctioned like it did! Anyways.....

How annoying....I'm glad they were able to fix the freezer:D The freezer has a alarm on it? Thats odd. Glad all is well.....and all your food didnt spoil....that would of been a real bummer:mad:

Ok girls...enough about Disney...I am so jealous! I can not wait to go. My parents took pics of the parade when they took my son and I have to say it is truly remarkable....maybe next year I will be able to take my little girl:D

I'm happy to report I got a B on my test today. :) I still haven't gotten the grade back on my other test, but I'm hoping it's good! I never thought I would be so happy to get a B as I have been since I got in nursing school! :rolleyes: :)

Well I didn't get the freezer fixed. I just turned off the alarm! It seems to be keeping everything frozen ok. I am just hoping the alarm malfunctioned. I keep every service manual on everything in this house and when I go to find the one that is for the freezer, it's not there! Go figure. Grrrrr. This too shall pass.

mrsvicki: do you think it could be due to the heat of summer? :hmm: i have a chest freezer in my gagarge, and during the summer it kicks off every once in a while. its because the heat outside makes the freezer work overtime to keep it cold, and it overloads the circuit and the breaker trips it off, rather than letting it overload the wires in the wall to the point that they catch on fire.

its a hassle because when it does that, if i dont notice it right away, it defrosts itself and we lose all our food in there. :blah: but it is a good thing that it turns it off rather than letting it start a fire! mine doesnt have an alarm, i just have to look for the red light on the outlet on the wall. maybe your problem is totally unrelated, but maybe this info will help somehow. :shrug: you are right, this too shall pass! Hey everyone, :wave: Happy Wednesday! Hope everyone is having a good day so far. I didn't go to school today so I'm here at home. We are allowed to miss one day a semester and I'm feeling not so hot today, so I decided to take my day off today. Plus, it'll give me some time to catch up with all my work I have due.
MsVicki, I'm pretty excited for my B. :) I just got my other test score back too, and it's a B also. That class I'm doing bad in right now, so I was hoping I would have gotten a better grade, but oh well. I have to go to school until next May and then I'll graduate with my RN (I hope ;) ). Hope your freezer is still holding up alright. It's so hot in the valley today, too. You're in the valley, right? Well no matter where you are in Az today, it's HOT!!

July will be a good month for me. I'm going to South Carolina to see my son. I'll get to be there 4 days - a good, long, weekend. That's were I raised my kids. Hollis will have some sort of party and we will have a wonderful time.

Then, the first weekend of August, I'm going to see my son in prison. I will get a special visit since I live so far away. I will be SO glad to see him.

As for what I'm doing - trying to survive the heat. Texas is about 100 every day with high humidity and way too much ozone (makes it hard to breathe). Yes, I know Arizona is hot too, but it's dry heat - remember! On the positive side, I get to work from home many days and I have a job I just LOVE. My first cousin (with whom I share a house) is finally back home after visiting her grandchildren. I'm also playing with my adorable dog Buffy. She's a 2 year old part poodle part Pomaranian. She is adorable - an apricot fuzz ball.

Aimee....yea it probably is the heat. But it has never done it before and the food is still rock hard frozen inside it. So who knows. Every year I keep saying that I'm going to shut it down for the summer months and never do. I buy too much on sale. Then I cook alot at once and freeze it in portions for me.
Lisa.....un huh playin hooky huh!!!! Wow! That's really good another B! Hey May is not that far away. That is great that you'll be an RN by then. Yes, I'm in the east valley. I think it was like 116 today! I came home from work, put my suit on and swam then did my backyard work wet and in a bathing suit. Wish I could do the front yard that way.
njtexas.....sounds like you are going to traveling alot. Good for you. It's alway nice to visit. Tell me about the special visit thing because you are far away. I keep trying to find out about this and keep getting put off.

hi everyone! :wave: good to see so many posts in our little thread here. :p

i had dinner tonight with my family! my grandpa lives in southern Az, about 3.5 hours away from us. he came up here today and alot of us met at a restaurant, its his birthday. it was good to see my aunts and uncles, i wish my cousins would have come but oh well. grandpa was happy to spend his birhtday with his kids, a few of his grand-kids, and a few of his great-grand-kids.

NJ~so glad to hear about your visits! family is so wonderful. I have spent some time lately re-connecting with old friends and some family members, it feels good to see them again. good for you for getting to see your kids. :)

MsVicki~I wish i had a pool! :o i have a blow up pool that my niece and nephew love, but i would just love to have a real one. it is a great way to spend a summer day. and i hear ya on the back yard work in the bathing suit! :p

Lisa~ its good to have a day off! I love my time off, and as you know, I'd retire now if i could! (thats like 40 years early...) :haha:

Aimee... yes, I just love my pool and I wouldn't own a house without one here in AZ. But then on the downside, it's more for me to take care of right now. (sigh) That is so nice that you got to get together with your family. Family is always important. How old was grandpa on his birthday? I have 5 generations alive right now! But most live in CA so I don't see them much.

mel & nj.....are you getting alot of humity there in TX? I know for me that's the one thing that just drains the life out of me. I just can't take the humity.

hi everyone! my day is good so far, i am waiting for a guy to come here and shampoo my carpet. of course they give a 2 hour time frame, and we had all the furniture pushed into the kitchen ahead of time, so now we are just waiting...:rolleyes:

The weather in Texas is just terrible. It is about 100 every day and almost 100% humidity.

I was lucky this weekend to get invited to a pool party. That was a lot of fun.

This is my week to visit my son who is not in prison. He lives in South Carolina. I leave on Thursday. I'm excited.

Hope all of you are making it with the heat. My power bill came today and I am in cardiac arrest!!!

Hey Lisa~ girl I am so stressed, I really should be working this weekend...I have soooo much to do. I know once I get there everything will be fine....it just seems there is not enough time to get everything done and I have so much going on these next few weeks.

It looks like it will be hitting deep south Texas, I'm sure we'll get some rain from it...I just don't know how much, last time I looked they were predicting the rains to hit Wednesday. I need to check and see what the status is and if the predicted path is the same. That's ok though we need rain, just not a ton, cause then it will flood and we have some hellacious floods around here! I guess you have to deal with that too though huh?

~Mel, I know it's tough to think about making a big trip when you feel like you have so much to do, but sometimes you just have to give yourself a break. You deserve this trip and it'll make you feel so refreshed to see Mikey. :)
We are actually getting some storms in AZ tonight, I think it may be the beginning of the monsoon season. It hasn't rained yet, but it's really windy and thundering and lightening. Hope you don't get flooded from the hurricane Mel and NjTexas!!

What a storm last night huh? I can't wait til day light to go out and see what a mess my yards and pool are. I have two big, old trees that when it is very windy big chuncks tend to come out of them. Grrrrr more work! Well I'm really excited, I just finished booking everything for a trip to see my honee next month! Geezzz air fares are going thru the roof! I guess it's the gas prices. But what can I do? Nada. Pay it, hush up and see my honee!

NJ & Mel....how far are you from the hurricane? I hope and pray you both are safe from it.

Mel I get the same way before I go for a visit. Seems everything gets behind and I'm running around like crazy. But it always works out. Take lots of deep breaths.

First of all did you ladies survive the storm last night? I hope all is well, not too much clean up MsVicki. The poor animals...they get so scared, my friend had a dog and there towards the end he would have strokes because of the weather, it was so sad.

Lisa, Aimee, MsVicki~ I know all my worries will go away once I see him, I just have relatives coming in next Friday and I have to cram what normally takes two weeks worth of work into one week. It will be good for me to get away.

And then last night Sav was running a major fever and I was like oh no, thank goodness it's only Tuesday and she can get rid of this bug before the weekend...that came out of nowhere.

Here is what little I know about special visits.

Special visits are allowed for folks who are a long way away. I think that means that you are out of state. Since I live in Texas, I am both out of state and a long way away. The inmate requests the visit with his CO3. There is approval or disapproval at that level. The sargent then USUALLY re-approves what the CO3 has approved. In my most recent case, my son was told I could visit only on the weekend. He is not allowed to appeal, but I am. I talked to the sargent who said I could only come on the weekend (I wanted a week day). The next appeal is to the deputy warden in a letter. The current reason is that the prison is short staffed. So we will see if special visits become just weekends because of "staffing issues". Since I am hesitant to believe everything I am told, I am skeptical of the reasoning.

Njtexas, any luck with appealing the denial of your weekday special visit? I would sure try, all they can say is 'no.' You are coming from a long way and should be able to get an extra day-that's ridiculous that they are denying you. They have non-contact during the weeks, so someone should be there, I would think.

Hey Lisa~ Just got back in town. We had a wonderful visit, I was so glad to see him and of course he was really happy to see me. I got there late Saturday, well around 10, Sav was up all night running a fever so I didn't get to leave until later, but I made it and all is well! Ans Sav's fever finally broke yesterday...woohoo, that was a long time to run a fever.

I don't know when it will be...he has been reclassed back to AZ so we don't know when he will be transferred back, we're just playing the waiting game. I wish I could see him this weekend again, but unfortunatley I can't. Hopefully he will still be there in a few months...when I will be able to visit.

And when are you going for visit again, or do you get to visit every weekend?

yes I go every weekend....we are blessed that he is only about an hour and a half away from home. I have always gone very weekend, Im so grateful for it. ;)

I remember when my pal was at Lewis, he was miserable in the summer due to an inadequate swamp cooler. Are the cooling systems adequate where your loved ones are housed?

My pal is still at Newton. His Native American circle has grown to 20 now.

I am really busy with school, work, 3 kids and maintaing my weekly letters and visists. Other than that I am fine and trying to stick out this next 4 years. Anyone have any words of advice or encouragement? Thanks for all of your help guys in keeping me strong.

Chintath~61 degrees? How nice that must be...geez. I don't know how everyone else handles the heat, I just try to stay inside as much as possible.

My husbands still in Oklahoma so they don't have any issues there with the cooling systems.

Your friends is still in Newton...holy cow are they ever gonna send him back? I hope things have gotten better there for him.
