View Full Version : Tracy DVI = Slow mail!
California Sunshine 04-19-2003, 11:26 AM I have a childhood friend in there who is awaiting transfer to another prison and I just recieved a letter saying he has not recieved ANY mail as of yet.I have sent letters, postcards and an Easter card since he has been there 3 WEEKS and still nothing! Is it usual for the mail to be backed up this long? Poor guys, not getting any mail!
mabear 04-19-2003, 11:48 AM I don't know about CA prisons but in MI thats a big NO!!!! If I were you I would call the prison and ask for the mail room and see what is going on.

Cheetoes1 04-19-2003, 01:20 PM At most of the prisons in CA it takes about 2 weeks for mail to reach a inmate. The best thing to do is make sure that you have the inmate's full name, CDC# and correct mailing address ( usually a PO Box) for inmate mail. That seems to make the mail a little faster. But not by much :(
Just hang in there and he'll end up getting all your mail at once!! :)

QUIMICHIN-GIRL 04-19-2003, 01:40 PM YEAH IN CA IT TAKES A WHILE ESPECIALLY IF HE'S NEW. KELLY'S SUGGESTIONS MIGHT HELP.
GOOD LUCK
VICKTORIA 04-24-2003, 05:35 PM My husband is also in DVI. Has been there since the 13 of March. He writes me twice a week and tells me how much he would like to get a letter from me. He thinks I have forgot about him or am to busy to write. I write him every other day very long letters. So I would like to know the answer to that question.
MY MAN WAS AT WASCO AND I WOULD GET A LETTER EVERY DAY FROM HIM, AND HE KEPT ASKING WHEN I WAS GOING TO WRITE, WELL HE LEFT FOR COURT AND WHEN HE RETURNED THEY GAVE HIM ABOUT 15 LETTERS FROM ME, NOW HE GETS HIS MAIL IN ABOUT A WEEK, BUT LATELY FOR SOME REASON ITS TAKING LONGER FOR HIM TO RECEIVE MY MAIL AND FOR ME TO RECEIVE HIS MAIL.
ameej25 05-07-2003, 06:30 PM i just went through the DVI mail system and they stay behind by 2 weeks generally and it takes 2 weeks to process...so its about a month for any mail to reach the inmates....also if he is in intake he will not get anything until later...just keep writing...he'll get them eventually!
California Sunshine 05-07-2003, 06:44 PM The mail I am getting from him is fast, only about two days but he is just now recieving stuff I sent on the 11th of last month! Crazy! I just sent him some writing supplies at this rate he probably won't get them before he is transfered out!
andreamarie 05-07-2003, 08:17 PM Hello Imarie, my baby was at DVI for four months before he was transferred out to Lancaster. But he didn't get my letters until two weeks of the date I sent them out. He would reply to them but by then I would forget what I wrote about. But when he would finally get his mail he would get a flood of it drenched in my perfume. The whole block would give him comments on how spoiled he is. Just keep calling the mailroom and I even spoke with the prison chaplin to check on the issue. Because it breaks a mans spirits when he feels alone. And surprisingly she got word to my baby to let him know I was still here. Whatever works. :)
xlinda_jbx 05-07-2003, 08:55 PM I don't have any problems with getting my mail through -- and vice versa -- as far as Pelican Bay is concerned. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
xlinda_jbx 05-07-2003, 08:56 PM Dear Tracy:
Re the last post from me, please ignore. I've had Pelican Bay on the brain and might've had a senior moment. Take care.
California Sunshine 05-19-2003, 10:47 PM Does anyone know if the mail I have sent that he has not recieved yet will be sent to his new prison or will it be returned to me? He expects to transfer very soon but still hasn't recieved alot of stuff I have sent...Just curious if you knew,I'll try the mail room this week
Thanks
VICKTORIA 05-20-2003, 12:15 AM Imarie
When my husband got transfer from DVI I called the mail room to see what would happen to his mail. They told me it would be transfered but it would take about a month to do so. So I just hope they were telling the truth since he did not get his birthday or anniversary card. I even sent them one month early so he would get them. But didn't happen.
andreamarie 05-20-2003, 12:44 AM Hello Imarie, when my baby was transferred out of DVI I was returned some photos but he still received some letters at the place he was transferred to. It took over one and a half months for his mail to be rerouted. Hey did you know that when you send a money order to be put on his books you can send it to, P.O. Box 20 and of course Tracy. It will get applied to his books within 3-5 days from the date you mailed it. Just in case you didn't know.
California Sunshine 05-20-2003, 07:41 PM Thanks good to know he will get it eventually when he is moved! Got a letter today,he recieved my Lake Tahoe post card in ONE day but just now got the writing materials I sent on the 28th of last month!
LJsWife 05-20-2003, 08:28 PM DeDe...My Husband is in Wasco also. I/We have never had a problem with mail, money orders or writing materials.
The first letter I sent hand the incorrect PO Box number on it, but since it had Wasco on it, he received it in a bout a week. But now that I address them properly, he gets them in a day or so. Call and see.....cause ya neva know!
Good luck!
