FranksFrackBoy 07-06-2005, 08:51 PM Aren't calls to cell phones prohibited/impossible? messyjesse 07-06-2005, 11:08 PM Aren't calls to cell phones prohibited/impossible? haha no not totally impossible, yes they are prohibited, but if it clicks you offf, you need to tell whoever is in jail that wants to 3-way to blow into the phone so the machine doesnt hear when the person presses flash...yes, they'll look retarded doing it, but they have to blow into where they talk hard enoguh so the jail receiver thing doesnt hear and keep blowing until they click back over, i just dont know if i can make it more simple, buy a calling card, tell him the # on it, and have him call that...but i dont know if its worth spending the money if it wont work!!! kreepsgirl 07-06-2005, 11:23 PM I think the only way you can accept collect calls on your cell phone is if they are forwarded from you home phone. But they can buy calling cards from the store to use. FranksFrackBoy 07-07-2005, 01:53 AM That's very clever! LeBeau 07-07-2005, 08:18 AM Cali inmates CAN buy phone cards? I was under the impression that it HAD to be collect? If he can have phone cards, I'll just buy a pre-paid cell and activate it in Susanville so it's a local call from High Desert! j_dom 07-07-2005, 12:57 PM  I'm confused. I understand about collect calls to cell phones, but 3-way calls are prohibited too? Like if you're talking to the Inmate and you want to make a 3-way call during your phone call, That's prohibited? Maybe I'm just not getting it? lanash 07-07-2005, 01:15 PM You can make 3-way calls but sometimes they can detect it if they hear you click over. I never thought about blowing into the phone that might work. I thought they could only use the calling cards they buy from the store. Is that true? My man is in CTF in Washington, DC. Does anyone know? j_dom 07-07-2005, 03:43 PM If you can make 3-way calls then why does it matter if they detect it or not? You can make 3-way calls but sometimes they can detect it if they hear you click over. I never thought about blowing into the phone that might work. I thought they could only use the calling cards they buy from the store. Is that true? My man is in CTF in Washington, DC. Does anyone know? messyjesse 07-07-2005, 05:07 PM 3-ways are prohibited in SOME places. I have a friend in chino who can 3-way me without blowing and it wont hang up, but i had a brother in L.A. county who hasss to blow (and it does work, but they have to blow hard enough) and the machines will dectect it and cut everyone off of the call. i was wondering, if i go to the market, buy a calling card, and then tell him the # on the calling card, and then he can call me directly to my cell with nobody having to 3-way him. i think that kreepsgirl may be right, but i was just wondering if anybody had tried this before actually, i will just do it and tell you all if it worked or not so maybe, if someone else is in the same situation, they can do this too. if ANYBODY has tried it before, pleaseeee tell me if it works or not. anyways, have a good day! 211*16 07-07-2005, 05:23 PM I Was reading on the prison calls online they can send the calls to your cell phone too, not just the home phone. LeBeau 07-07-2005, 05:28 PM The reason behind three-way calls being prohibited is to protect people who do not wish to be contacted...and while I would love to have conference calls between him, a mutual friend and myself sometime in the future, I totally agree with this particular security measure....At the risk of shouting "FIRE" in a crowded theater....Some people in prison are not very nice, and some of those people will, given the chance, do things like make threatening calls to people who don't want to hear from them.... Think ex-spouses, victims, lawyers.....That's why I don't think a measure of control over who an inmate can call is a totally bad thing. The solution that I think would please everyone (Except maybe the phone company holding the contract for the collect calls) would be single number calling cards, like the ones for college students to call home on....They're only good to call one number, and the account holder could sign a release stating that they know this card is to be used by the inmate,so there would be no security issue and a heck of a lot cheaper than collect calls. c's baby 07-08-2005, 01:28 PM I was under the impression that calling cards are prohibited here in California Prison system. Maybe it is new. My husband calls me collect to our house phone. It is on permanate call forwarding to my cell. When he is up north he calls our northern california phone, and then when he is south, he calls the so. ca phone. The prices are reasonable. MCI has dropped their rates! LeBeau 07-08-2005, 04:25 PM Debster,we have not yet been able to have calls but I was wondering... what is the current cost of the calls? kreepsgirl 07-08-2005, 05:19 PM You cant buy calling cards and send them to your inmates, they have to be bought from the store in the prison. c's baby 07-08-2005, 06:29 PM Debster,we have not yet been able to have calls but I was wondering... what is the current cost of the calls? The call prices are $3.75 to $4.64. That is for 15 minute calls. messyjesse 07-08-2005, 07:34 PM You cant buy calling cards and send them to your inmates, they have to be bought from the store in the prison. do you happen to know how much they cost? kreepsgirl 07-08-2005, 11:23 PM No I dont, my fiance has always called the house direct. Sorry! kg4ujg 09-06-2005, 06:50 AM I just signed up for a 1-800 number that forwards his calls to my cell phone. We haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you all know how it works. The price is $4.95 a month plus 5 cents a minute. So it's alot cheaper than most phone services. Tepee 09-12-2005, 01:11 PM When I called SBC about getting my land lined forworded to my cell phone I specifically asked if I could get collect calls off my cell phone and they told me no. Are all of you going through MCI is that why it's allowing you to connect to a collect call on your cell phones. I'm curious because I hate walking in the door seeing that I've got messages and hearing the operator on my machine, it breaks my heart knowing I missed his call. Thanks for the help. Calif Dreamer 09-12-2005, 05:08 PM When I called SBC about getting my land lined forworded to my cell phone I specifically asked if I could get collect calls off my cell phone and they told me no. Are all of you going through MCI is that why it's allowing you to connect to a collect call on your cell phones. I'm curious because I hate walking in the door seeing that I've got messages and hearing the operator on my machine, it breaks my heart knowing I missed his call. Thanks for the help. I have SBC service and receive forwarded collect calls to my cell phone. You have to put the "call forwarding" service on your land line. It costs $5.00 a month. When you leave your house you dial *72 plus your cell phone number and wait for your cell phone to answer via voice mail or you can just answer it. (Bottom line is to make sure the connection is made to your cell phone.) Then hang up both phones and all calls that come to your land line are now forwarded to your cell phone. When you get home and want to switch the land phone back you dial *73. You can forward the calls to any number you want, not just the cell phone. Hope this clears up your question. Sometimes SBC doesn't understand our questions. Only takes a few minutes to request the call forwarding service and it is activated within hours of ordering it. AngelLove143 09-13-2005, 04:34 AM PCO maybe able to help you....I have PCO and they forward the calls to my cell phone. Tepee 09-13-2005, 01:59 PM Thanks, that helps a lot you don't know how many times I've missed a phone call because of work. I won't have to worry about that any more. blzsofie17 03-20-2006, 06:13 PM does anybody know if i can buy a calling card and have him use that to call my cellphone? would that work if i did that? NJR102000 04-22-2006, 08:20 PM Does Anyone Know Of Another Phone Company Other Than Mci Or Prison Callsonline? merlinita 01-29-2007, 11:33 AM You Can't buy a calling card and send it to him, he has to get them at the store, they cost ten dolars and they gibe you like 52 minutes for local calls, he can call you to your cell with no problem. but he has to get the calling card there. hope it works out for you. hesavedme 01-29-2007, 01:20 PM MOst prisons dont offer calling cards. sjjoe 05-09-2007, 06:09 PM I'm intrigued by the 800 number. Has anyone verified that an inmate can call an 800 number? This would be a tremendous money saver. Can someone give me some more info if you've tried it and it worked or not? Thanks. LeBeau 05-09-2007, 08:38 PM Inmates at CDC facilities cannot call 800 numbers, nor are they permitted calling cards. nini304 05-10-2007, 06:37 PM there is a 800 number you can call and i think its like 30 dollars and you can add money to your cell phone and its like a prepaid plan and once the money runs out the calls quit until you put more money on there i have my phone where my man calls my cell phone with the prepaid plan LeBeau 05-10-2007, 07:04 PM Nini.. the rules and privileges are different in every state. California requires that inmate calls are made collect through the carrier contracted by the facility. nolanie 05-13-2007, 03:14 PM Can Inmates In Ctf Call People Without Mci Or Do They Need Mci To Call LeBeau 05-14-2007, 10:59 AM The calls will come from MCI no matter who your carrier is. PAPIZGURL 05-21-2007, 02:21 PM Can My Bf Call My Cell Directly With A Calling Card Purchased From The Jail Store? LeBeau 05-21-2007, 02:27 PM Some County jails offer that option, not all. I understand that cards are an option for some Federal inmates and at some of the private prisons. NO CDC facility permits calling cards. PapizGurl, The best way to find out if your guy can use a calling card is to either ask him, or call the jail administration office and ask them. missthang559 11-07-2008, 01:39 PM if you have at&t at home and an at&t cell you can recive collect calls on your cell. call att and ask them for the collect calls from jail number and then you call and set it up.;) ttl63 11-12-2008, 07:51 PM I was told you have to send them a money order, which is put in there account.....Then there calls come off of the money in the account? aliferzwife 11-13-2008, 11:00 AM I was told you have to send them a money order, which is put in there account.....Then there calls come off of the money in the account?
