Hi! I am going crazy over so many things right now. I was contacted by two Special Agents in regards to Section 8 fraud. They are saying that I have committed fraud by not notifying them that my boyfriend moved in 3-weeks ago. The worst part is he used my address for probation reasons. Does anyone know what is going to happen to me? He has been using this address since his release from jail in September of 2003. Please if anyone has any info...I would greatly appreciate it.
Also, they want to take my statement at the FBI office. Has this happened to anyone before? What are the charges for this type of case? Please respond...I am very worried.:(

They are after you for far more than Section 8 fraud. Something else is going on.

You may want to make a visit to the Federal Defenders office in town. Atleast that is what I would do tomorrow and be very forthright about what is going on and that you need help! They may be able to help you.

I agree with Shrekney. Something bigger than what they're saying is going on. I can tell you from my own experience with the FBI that they don't get involved unless something big is going down that your local police can't handle. You need a lawyer.

I can't imagine what else could be going on. On the Special Agent's business card it says U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Office of Inspector General below that is his name and "Special Agent." I asked him if he is with the FBI and he said, "Yes" they are a division of the FBI. The file he had with him had my name on it. I haven't been involved in anything what's so ever. I am not one to commit any crimes...so I am confused.
I wonder if I should call him today. He said he was going to give me a telephone call yesterday to set up a statement. Any suggestions, would be helpful. I will call the Federal PD office today.
Thanks everyone.

P.S. Someone told me that Section 8 is funded throught the government but ran by the state. So who would be the one to prosecute? I have seen people really violate the laws by renting out their section 8 apartment and gaining money from it and getting away with it. I don't think I violate any laws except for not reporting withing the 10-days.

Do not call the Federal Defenders Office. Go there. That was the advice I was given 2 years ago. I followed it am I am glad I did. Don't call the agent back until you have visited the Federal Defenders Office.

I disagree with others that something more has to be going on. We have been told that HUD is going after any type of fraud cases with vigor...meaning that they need to get every case cleaned up asap. I would definitely visit with the Federal Defender's Office before you made any more phone calls or visits.
In Dallas County not too long ago, federal agents stung an entire apartment complex going after every type of fraud case possible. There were many residents who were in situations just like yours (someone else living with them who wasn't a reported resident) & they were indicted also.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone for all your feedback. Everyone has been great and being in a situation as myself...what a scary thing. I appreciate all of your advice and will take this matter very seriously.
Once again, thanks to all the wonderful people here at PTO. What would I do without such great friends? I am thankful to this site.
