I find it difficult to find specific information on the Internet about Fed prisons... The BOP site does not give much information - hopefully someone here will know something specific to give you some idea...

If you go to www.google.com and type in "usp lewisburg" you will come up with a lot of sites but I am not sure that it will give you what you need?

Lewisburg is considered a "cushy" prison--one of those that gives the sterotype that all prisoners live on "easy street" when in prison. It is minimum security as far as I know. Lewisburg also houses a witness protection unit. The prison is located near Williamsport, home of Little League Baseball, in the mountains, centrally located 3 hours from anywhere [lol]; that is, Philadelphia, Harrisburg or Pittsburgh. Actually people from Williamsport say this about their relatively small town! There are some nice places to stay in Williamsport--if you are planning to visit, let me know and I can share places I've enjoyed when up there. I have not been to FCI-Lewisburg but have spent a fair amount of time in this area of PA for business reasons.
Hope this is somewhat helpful.

If it is labeled a U.S.P. it is always a "high" security prison. FCI's are medium and Lows..

I believe there is a minimum male camp next to the USP there in Lewisburg as well as a Intensive Confinement Center.
Lewisburg is an old Pen that was opened in the early 30's. Most of the inmates are from the middle Atlantic region/states. I never heard much about it being a violent prison but we did not have many people where I was at that had been there or met many people. It definitely was not infamous like Marion & Atlanta were.

Hope that helps and I will keep a look out for more information.

When I was there from June of 1985 to March of 1989, there were 13 murders during that time. But keep in mind that the place was full of "convicts" - not inmates. And it was a great place to do time if you had to do it. You had to break into the SHU unit there. No petty BS. A hard core joint for hard core guys. But it has changed a lot in recent years, so it may be as messed up as the rest of the BOP!

Guess what!

Lewisburg is Max. security. The guards there though can be pretty cool. But, I guess I have to say that because they witnessed my marriage. :)

There was alot going on at the time my husband was in Lewisburg and actually I've recently heard about an attempt on an assistant wardens life. I have never heard anything about them being a "cushy" prison. Allenwood on the other hand has been titled the "country club" of prisons.

What else would you like to know about Lewisburg? I'll help if I can.

Lewisberg is a USP as well as a camp, so they are both there. a USP is much worse than a camp, USP is high level while camp is minimum security. so there is a big diff. hope that helps
