View Full Version : Susanville
Jerrysmom 07-04-2005, 11:53 AM Hi everyone, I have not been here in such a long time. I have been on the go since March.
My son was just sent to susanville on 6-30, I know that it is a training facility for fire camps. Does anyone know anything about Susanville, visiting clothes? How long they are there before they are sent to a fire camp? Any information is greatly appreciated. We will only be able to visit once in awhile so I dont want to blow it when we go, its about a 9 hour drive.
Thanks
Jerrysmom;)
soulmatesnlove 07-04-2005, 12:10 PM On average it takes 5-6 months to get to firecamp but that doesnt meet every standard. It depends on the crime and the person. They wait for arrest records to come back and all information pertaining to such cases. Visiting takes 60days to get approved. Clothing: Jeans, tshirt, no OPEN clothes meaning nothing that is easyily accesible. No bags, food, books, NOTHING!!!
Hope this helps some
denverswife 07-04-2005, 02:10 PM I'm guessing you mean the Ca Correctional Facility, not High Desert State Prison. They are side by side in Susanville.
At CCC: No sleeveless tops, make sure when you bend over they can't see skin between your shirt and pants, and be sure if you raise your arms your shirt still covers your tummy. I've seen them ask people to do both...even little children! You can't take ANYTHING in with you, not even notes of questions you want to ask! If this is his first visit, be sure he knows to check in at the desk BEFORE he comes to you, he can get into trouble if he doesn't. Hope this helps!
Jerrysmom 07-04-2005, 06:14 PM thanks, yes I did mean the ccc, I did not know that High Desert was there also, I thought it was in central-southern calif.
How about pictures and money?
and does anyone know the motels in the area?
and thanks again for the info.
michellelynnwil 07-04-2005, 07:07 PM I send pictures all the time and postal money orders twice a month. I am going to visit this weekend for the first time so I don't know about the hotels yet.

michellelynnwil 07-04-2005, 11:51 PM Yes Iwill let you know how it went.
soulmatesnlove 07-05-2005, 11:27 AM There are a couple motels here. There is a MOTEL 8, an Apple Inn (or something), an Acorn INN, and theres one more its white and has a restraunt in front LOL I cant for the life of me remeber the name of it. Which is sad considering I grew up in Susanville.
The rules I mentioned were for CCC. I know theres more than that I just cant remeber them all. CCC is a good drive from S'ville. It goes alot quicker when you know the backroads. If you fly into Reno, NV and drive down 395 you will drive for about 80 miles (from Reno) then you will see a stoplight heading towards "Johnstonville" and CCC, HDSP, from that road its about 15 min or so. Those of you traveling I hope you have a safe trip and a wonderful visit.
And if youve never beent o S'ville...theres not much here. The big "ohh ahh" is that theres a walmart lol. As for food: burger king, taco bell, mcdonalds, country kitchen, black bear rest, subway, pizza factory, dominos, harts cafe, some chinese and mex rest, umm...I think thats about it. Let me know if you ladies need any more info and I will get what I can for you.
ROSEBUD69 07-05-2005, 02:50 PM HI JERRYS MOM,
I JUST HAD MY VISIT WITH MY HUSBAND THIS LAS WEEKENED AND IT WAS GREAT. I KNOW SOMETHINGS ABOUT SUSANVILLE AND I WILL BE GLAD TO SHARE WITH YOU. THE TRAINING TAKES ABOUT THREE MONTHS. CLOTHING YOU CANNOT TAKE ANY THIN CLOTHING WERE YOUR BRA WILL BE VIVABLE. NO LOW CUT V-NECK THAT SHOW CLEAVAGE. THE PANTS, YOU CAN WHERE ALMOST ANYTHING LIKE BLACK JEANS AS LONG AS IT IS NOT BLUE JEANS,LEVIS YOU CAN WEAR BLUE CUPRIS STRECH PANTS. YOU WILL NEED TO FEEL OUT A VISITING FORM. YOUR SON WILL MAIL THAT VISITING FORM OUT TO YOU FILL IT OUT AND SEND IT BACK TO THE SAM ADDRESS THAT YOU SON HAS BUT YOU NEED TO WRITE ATTN. TO VISITING DEPARTMENT. THE PROCESS WILL TAKE ONE MONTH BEFORE THEY SEND IT BACK. THAT VISITATION PASS WILL BE VALID FOR 3 YEARS. THERE ARE LOTS OF MOTELS NEAR BY WHICH YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM. THE HOTELS ARE ON MAIN STREET. I STAY IN RIVER INN I THINK THAT THEY ARE THE CHEAPEST IN COST. NEXT PREFFERANCE IS THE MOTEL8 IT IS VERY NICE. I LIVE IN SGV AND IT TAKES ME 9 1/2 HRS TO GET UP THERE. MY NEXT VISIT WILL BE IN SEPTEMBER....REMEMBER THAT THEY CAN HAVE VISITS ON CERTAIN HOLIDAYS. LIKE MEMORIAL. X-MAS,NEWYEARS AND LABOR DAY......WHICH MEMORIAL THIS YEAR FELL ON A MONDAY THEY WERE ABLE TO HAVE VISIT FOR THREE DAY. THE NEXT HOLIDAY THAT FALLS ON A MONDAY IS LABOR DAY. SO THAT MEANS THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE YOUR SON FOR THREE DAY. I THINK THAT IS WORTH THE DRIVE. MAKE SURE THAT YOU CALL THE 800-374-8474 THAT IS THE NUMBER FOR ALL PRISONS YOU NEED TO CHOOSE SUSANVILLE AND IT WILL GIVE YOU THE STATUS FOR VISITATION..MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT ON LOCKDOWN. NO VISITS ON LOCK DOWN....MY VERY FIRST VISIT I CALLED BEFORE DRIVING UP TO SUSANVILLE...EVERYTHING WAS OK ONCE I GOT TO SUSANVILLE ON A FRIDAY....WELL THAT FRIDAY SOMETHING HAPPENED AND THEY WENT ON LOCK DOWN:angry: I WAS SO UPSET AFTER DRIVING 9 1/2 HOURS THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HAVE ANYVISITS FOR THAT WEEKENED...SO I HAD TO DRIVE BACK HOME.....THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT WE HAVE TO TAKE A CHANCE ON ARE THE LOCK DOWNS
JERRYSMOM I HOPE THAT I WAS ABLE TO INFORM YOU ENOUGH....HAVE A NICE AND SAFE TRIP WHEN YOU HEAD OUT THERE.......I AM STILL TIRED RIGHT NOW.

michellelynnwil 07-05-2005, 03:25 PM what if the blue capris are blue jean material can you still wear them?
Jerrysmom 07-05-2005, 06:15 PM thanks you guys that is a lot of info. I really appreciate it. I dont know when I will go get to visit (because of the time it takes to get the forms filled out) I just hope it is before they ship him off again to a fire camp if that is where his road leads. My husband was in a fire camp when he was younger and he said that then they just trained you in the camp itself, but he got to have visits out side the camp to. He also said that they feed you really good when you are in fire camp. Im sure things have changed though.
Rosebud69, I feel for you about the lock down, one time my son was in solidad and they were having a xmas party for the kids which I think is great, but we did not know about it and we drove 3 hours on his birthday to see him and they told us that if we were not on the list to attend the party we could not visit. I cried all the way home. My hubby felt so sorry that he stopped to let me christmas shop at some outlets.
thanks
