BOISE -- A veteran FBI agent and Idaho criminal investigator was sentenced to 12 months in prison Monday for child-pornography.

William Buie of Boise pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of sexually exploitative materials involving minors.

The 64-year-old's sentence was reduced to12 months from 33 months by U.S. District Court Judge Edward Lodge.

That’s after his attorney argued he was receiving sex-addiction treatment, had a good work record, and as an ex-FBI agent would be in danger in federal prison.

He acknowledged using his bank debit card to gain access to child pornography between 2001 and 2003.

He had up to 150 images on his computer and on compact discs.

He told investigators with the Utah Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that he learned to access child porn sites at a law-enforcement training seminar about five years ago.

Buie once helped arrest mountain-man Claude Dallas in Paradise Valley, Nevada in 1982.

Buie was an FBI sniper and involved in the siege in 1984 on Whidbey Island, Washington, in which Robert Mathews, founder of The Order racist group, died.

Before coming to Idaho where he worked for six years as a criminal investigator for the attorney general, Buie spent 30 years with the FBI, including stints in Seattle, Butte, Montana, and Salt Lake City.

This kind of behavior makes me sick. Its not so much because he committed the crime, but how can you be such a hypocrit. How can someone live a life of putting offenders away when they are no better themselves
