I just wanted to give a heads up to the ones who have loved ones in Varner. I have been sending pages of crosswords, search-a-words, and mazes to my son. I received a letter today from him and he did not get my last letter. I called the mail room and asked them why. They told me that I had to buy the books and have the book store send them to him. Too much of a fire hazard with the loose pages. They couldn't even remove the pages and give him my letter. This doesn't make much sense in some ways to me. I am really quite sad right now, it seems like we just can't do anything to help our people to survive the boredom without coming out the loser or spending money. I just thought that since I already had the books and no one was using them it was a way to help him through the boredom. We aren't to send him pages of anything--small articles and pictures only. I hope this helps someone else to not break the rules.

I have moved this thread out of Prison Profiles and into the main Arkansas Forum. Thanks for sharing this information!

That is insane! Here in Kansas, you can send that kind of stuff....I went to the dollar store and bought a dozen puzzle books (brain teasers, NY Times crosswords, etc.), and I send him a few pages a week. He shares them with his neighbors ;)
It's the truth....the "system" *gag, spit* is geared to bleed us dry out here. Between the mail restrictions (books can ONLY come from publishers, no CDs, etc.) and the outrageous phone call amounts, we are forced to suffer if we want to maintain our relationships with our loved ones inside.
Prison SUCKS!

what's worse is - since they refuse the entire letter - they give the inmate a paper that says he got a letter he can't have and he can either allow them to destroy it or HE HAS TO PAY POSTAGE to return it!
they'll also refuse the whole letter if you include more than 5 pictures, any blank pieces of paper, any picture bigger than 4x6.

Welcome to PTO dbrod! The best way to find your friend would be to do an ADC inmate search. Here is a link to their site:
http://www.state.ar.us/doc/inmate_info/
And here is Varner's mailing address if that is the unit he is in:
