Wayne is one of the most easy-going, laid back people I have ever met, so when things get to him, it has to be pretty bad. Here's part of a letter I got today:

"The police on the second shift have been acting real monkey lately. When they get us on the bed for a count - we can't get up and go to the restroom or anything for nothing. The bad part is that they leave us there for 2 hours or longer trying to agitate someone into doing something really stupid - like going to the restroom. Anyway a guy got ff of his rack today saying he had to pea, that they could write him up, he didn't care. Some other cons had gotten up before him and used the restroom. The officer over our dorm walked up behind that guy, grabbed him, and took him out the gate where the convict was handcuffed and beat down. I mean stomped by a bunch of police. It was bad but no one moved to help - just couldn't take the chance. Anyway, we stayed on the racks til supper. The police here are nuts. I don't know how long I can stand it. It's all really getting to me."

:( :( :( :(
It makes it so harder to tell JD to "hang in there" when I have to face the reality of what he has to deal with on a daily basis.... It is so frustrating!!!

MONICA:

KEEP CLOSE TABS ON THIS SITUATION.... IT'S EASIER TO DO SOMETHING FROM THE OUTSIDE, THAN FROM THE INSIDE.

I don't know what's going on and it's making me crazy. Wayne didn't call today (he was supposed to) and I haven't gotten a letter in a week. It's not like him - usually he writes every day and calls on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

Just be strong & keep the supportive letters to him comin'!

Any way you could call the facility and find out if something is going on that would prevent him from calling?? They may be locked down or something.... I would call and just say you are concerned because he hasnt' contacted you as he normally does....

Thanks Spencer and Donna.

Danielle, I think it's very good possible that they are on lockdown, that might be the reason why he hasn't called. Like Shawna said, try to get some information by calling the prison

I called the chaplin at Kilby on my lunch break and he promised to check on Wayne. I'm still waiting to hear something from my husband or the chaplain. I am afraid Wayne's depressed and getting distant and pushing me away. The delays are really getting to him. Right now I am trying to stay calm and see if he calls on Saturday. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for your loving support. I'd be lost without all of you.

Keep your hopes up. I have had some great luck with Chaplains. They can do things that others can't. Keep us posted and let us know what is going on.

Finally a letter! It's from Wednesday and says that the phones are screwed up and as soon as they are fixed he'll call. His words are "Baby, I know how you are. Don't freak if you don't hear from me." Of course I've assumed the worst, but this is the first week I haven't heard from him. It's been the longest week of my life.

I'll do whatever it takes to hang on - if not for my sake then for his.

A word about "Chaplains".

When I was with the M-2 program at DVI, Tracy, CA I got to know a person that had a prison ministry and DVI was one of the prison's he was working.

He was ask if he would be interested in working as a Chaplain for the State of California prison system. After some talks, they got down to the job discription and what they expected.

Here is what "they" expected and why he didn't take the job... He was to glean from the inmates what they knew about "OTHER" inmates in reguards to what CRIMES they had done and put that information in the computer.

I realize, my information is OLD, but it still comes to mind and I don't think, at least in this State, that things would change, if they are getting the information they want!

Another thing that 'might' tie into this is, when a person is sent back for a peaty parol violation. Could it be, that they (the system) has information or think they do, that they can't build a case on??? In other words, we'll get them one way or another!

It should be clear, to anyone involved with the SYSTEM, that it's geared to gun down a person, by using any 'trick' they can think of, once a person has gotten inside!

I have a few questons for you.
Who hires the Chaplains? Are they actually an employee of the Prison system?
What religious affiliation are most of the with? Catholic, Protestant, each and all?

Who trains them? Church or state? Are they certified? Church or state?

1- Who hires the Chaplains? Here it's a State job.

2- What religious affiliation? I'm not sure how that goes across the board. Most a non-dems I think, but I remember seeing one wearing a collar. But some from the Missionary Baptist churches does that also.

3- Who trains them? I believe most are ordained Clergy by a church. But I don't know if they went through Seminary schooling?

I do know that a lot of the Chaplians (ordained or not) are there just for the job, pay check and too dam laze to do anything else! In some case's, church services are held by inmates (trustee's).

The person I was talking about was ordained, by a church. Not from schooling, but because he started a prison ministry. That's cool in my book, until they try and take leadership of a Church, and that's the roll a Chaplian has!

Bray,

Don't the Chaplains have a confidentiality thing? Kind of like atty/client? Or is that only in during confessionals?

I would think if they are "counseling" an inmate, that conversation can't be disclosed.

Maybe I'm naive.

Regarding confidentiality of communicating with prison chaplins. Acording to the Calif. CDC Title 15;

"Information received by chaplins when performing their duties shall be priviledged except when non-disclosure of such information to facility staff would jeopardize the safety of any person or the security of the facility. Disclosure of such information shall be used for internal security of a facility and not as evidence in any criminal action".

Now the way this is worded & knowing how CDC works I wouldn't trust them with any kind of info that could be used against me. They may not use it on a street case, but they could use it to send you to ad seg, or for a SHU term.

As for bobsgirl, she's probably upset cause Bobs cellie is more of a woman than she is, & Bobby boy is tossing salad
for the whole tier. I apologize if I'm out of line but people like that get my Irish blood boiling.---Ken
