I have been searching for months on the new drug laws in Michigan. I am confused as to who they affect totally. Is it only the prisoners with mandatory minimums, or does it affect prisoners who have a plea agreemant? And it only seems to talk about people who got busted with certain amounts. What about the ones who are not convicted under the "amount" area of the law 333.7401? But rather other parts of it. Also, does anyone know how to get an inmates PSI report. I think reading that would help answer more questions and help with my war to get him early parole. Thank you!

Truthfully, I have no idea what the new drug laws are in Michigan. I mean, I have heard about them, but I am not sure as to who exactly they effect. Stick around cuz I am sure someone will come along and beable to answer your questions. I too would love to know if its possible to get an inmates PSI report. Welcome to PTO!
Welcome to PTO! I have no clue. The one thing I did see in the news the other day was a major increase in the sentencing for someone convicted of possession of ecstasy or delivery of it.....I thought they were decreasing time? This was a major increase....

PSI, IS IT PAROLE ?? I FIND MOST OF MY INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT'S GOING ON WITH THE MICHIGAN PRISON/DRUG LAWS BY GOING TO GOOGLE AND I PUT IN THE WORDS FOR WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR. I HAVE READ STUFF BUT I CANNOT QUOTE ANY OF IT. I PRINT THINGS OFF AND SEND IT TO MY GUY FOR HIM TO READ. LOOK IN DETROIT FREE PRESS AND LANSING STATE JOURNAL. I WILL PAY MORE ATTENTION NEXT TIME I READ ANY OF IT.

A PSI is the Pre-Sentence Information Report that the probation department writes on all inmates. It details the case in full and gives personal info about the prisoner i.e. family. I too read about the ecstacy case and the new laws on those. I don't understand either. Thank you for the link info i will try those spots too.

Hi...first welcome to PTO...there are some great people here. You can ask the attorney who represented your guy for a copy or you can call the court where he was sentenced and ask for a compelte copy of his legal file. It will cost some $$ though...they charge by the page. Hope this helps!

The Michigan Legislature approved the revisions in December.
The judges no longer have to rely on manditory minimums. The changes were retroactive. Also imposing consecutive sentences in drug delivery offenses is no longer required. Lifetime mandatory probation for drug offenders was eliminated. It is now 5 years. I have never looked on the state government site for it as it doesn't apply to my husband. A PSI is a Presentence Information Report. You should be able to FOIA it from the MDOC. It is not hard to do and the report is usually less than 10 pages long so it shouldn't cost that much. Good luck.
