View Full Version : Hy everybody - I´m a newbie
Ninidi 06-17-2005, 04:22 AM Hy there,
I am glad that I found this message board. A few weeks ago I decided to write to a Deathrow Inmate in California. A few days ago I received his reply and I know that my decision to write to him has been the right one!
Let me introduce myself: I am Nicky, I am 31 years old and I am from Germany. I´m married to a wonderful man and we have a cute little son aged 2. My husband believes that I am doing the right thing, too. It was very important to me that he understands me and that he supports me in writing to an Inmate!
My penpal is named Paul. He sounds like a very kind and gentle person.
I hope that I can find out what the charges against him are! That is something very important to me, I need to know it! I would never cancel the contact to Paul but I need to know it for myself. But I just can´t find out!
Maybe someone here can help me? You know I can´t ask Paul because I believe that the letters will be read before they are send.
Thats all about me at the moment. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them!
Finally I would like you to apologize my mistakes! English is not my native tongue and I sometimes feel a little awkward when I´m writing in english!
Just Me 1973 06-17-2005, 04:33 AM Hi Nindi and welcome to PTO :)
I don't know the mail rules in California, but I'm sure they screen incomming mail there as everywhere else. If you don't want to ask him why he was sent to death row, you can open the door and let him know you are willing to listen if he wants to talk about it. I discuss my friends case with them, becuse they know themselves what they can write about and not. Some are very open about it, and some prefer not to talk about it at all. Since your pen friendship is very new - he might be weary to talk to you about his case. To have someone on the outside is a good way to escape all that has to do with legal issues and the prison in itself. For me it isn't important to know exactly why they are there because I know a murder happened to land them there. But if they want to talk about it - I'll listen and help if I can.
Good luck with your new friend. :)
luvlieliz 06-17-2005, 04:35 AM welcome to pto:) im not really sure how you could find that out but im sure one of the girls here will know hope you find your answers
Ninidi 06-17-2005, 04:44 AM Hy there and thanks for the welcome!
I think telling him that I am willing to listen to him if he want to talk about is a very good idea! I will do this in my next letter. I guess the second letter is a little bit early for it!

have you thought of googling his name to see what he is in for, to stave any curiosity? be prepared, however, my DR friend told me what happened, it wasn't what the sate said it was, and I found myself with a certain amount of strange guilt feelings for the victims the state placed on him. so... I would just like Cassie said, let him know you're there for him anytime... and let him come to you (so to speak) if and when hew does want to open up....
I opened my eyes to the horrible truths the states try to hide with the DP- guilty or not, no one deserves that dehumanizing conditioning, nor do they deserve to be killed by the state!
take care, Ninidi and welcome aboard! :grouphug:
Ninidi 06-23-2005, 03:42 AM Hy BilliJoe,
yes, I´ve tried to google his name but found nothing except one sentence:
Martinez sentenced one other man to death, Paul W., for the shooting of a man at the Holiday Inn in West Covina. He said it was one of the most difficult decisions he had to make in his 17 years as a judge. 'I was shaking, perspiring and my heart was racing,' Martinez said.
That´s all I have found about his case.
specht 06-23-2005, 04:05 AM HI, my penpals can write about anything they want, also their cases. They told me, eventually, after getting to know eachother a bit better, all about it, even what they think went wrong, or was done wrong by the police/judges/whatever. So, I guess you could ask, if you feel çlose' enough to do so. I noticed they like to write about it, to explain what happened, in their own words. They knew I googled their names, and they didn't mind. But, they stated, this was just the juridical explanation, and that was something different than what really happened. So, if it's really that important for you to know (I found out after a year of writing them) then just ask. The way I look at it, is that they want you to be honest, and ask everything you want. If they don't want to answer, they won't...
A lot of fun writing your penpal. It brought a lot of good times in my life, having two new friends, even though they are in such a different life then I am...
Ninidi 06-23-2005, 04:11 AM Hy Specht,
in a way it is important for me to know. I wouldn´t give him up if I knew but I just want to know why a man I am caring for is in prison. I just want to know from the beginning so that it isn´t a shock when I learn it after a year or more of friendship. I want to be able to deal with it from the beginning. I do not want to wonder for months or years.
Besides I guess it is the same reason Paul asked me about my living and my relationship to my husband. We both just want to know where we are starting.
It is difficult to explain. I just think that it should be something that you know from the start because so that the friendship can be build on solid ground...
Jorlanda 06-23-2005, 04:36 AM Hallo Ninidi,
Leider...
Viele liebe Grüße
Nicky
