I have two padlocks on my dog pen. Niether has been unlocked for three years because I do not use that gate.

I went to weedeat and wanted to go out the gate and got the keys to unlock them. With alot of force, I got the one to unlock but not the other one.

I can see there is a considerable amount of rust around the plate, but of course I can't see inside the key hole. The key does go in and it does turn, it just will not open.

Someone suggested WD40 and then another person said absolutely not. Confused! Another suggested taking a hammer and breaking it, but I do not have a lot of strength in my hands and doubt if I could break it.

Pleasee anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks and the dogs thank you as well! LOL

Try the WD 40 or a product called Lock-Ease (hardware store), if not borrow a pair of bolt cutters and cut it off.

I was going to suggest WD40 as well. That is my first thought but not sure if someone told you not to use it!

I had forgot about this thread until today. I went to the Hardware Store and they recommended graphite. It comes in a small tube. So that is what I got. I put it around the plate and in the keyhole as well. Voila, it popped open.

I now carry the graphite in my workbag as the door at work sometimes will stick and it is difficult to open as well. So now I fixed both of those problems with the same solution.

LOL, I have no patience  , I would have used my bolt cutters and thrown the lock. I will buy some graphite for my toolbox now though, thanks, you may have saved a locks life someday.:p

Try the graphite first. Works wonders on locks. Then try the WD40. Last resort, the bolt cutters.
