View Full Version : Halfway House Time
dougee 06-15-2005, 08:07 PM I got a letter today from a friend in the Atlanta camp. He is about to go the RDAP, and said when he gets out he will only have to spend 1-2 months in the halfway house after he finds a job. Just to clarify, he didn't mean his sentence would be up 1-2 months after he got to the halfway house, but that he would only have to be there 1-2 months after he found a job. Is this possible? DO they allow you to serve the last few months at home or under supervision?
That's how it worked for my husband - are you sure you'll get into the RDAP program?
cjjack 06-15-2005, 09:10 PM You cannot go home on home confinement from halfway house until your 10% date. RDAP grads are the only inmates who even get to go to halfway house before their 10% date.
TxRhino 06-15-2005, 11:36 PM There are as many different scenarios as there are 1/2 way houses; however, I deal with 2 of them in my area and many of the residence at the houses have only stayed a few weeks. They still pay their bill as if they were still in the house... but they get to go home. So to answer your question.... YES, It is possible.
Keep the Faith

WhiteDuck 06-17-2005, 08:12 PM When my stepson left a Federal camp, he was assigned to a halfway house near us for six months. He was required to finish their in-house training (orientation, rules, etc.), and to find a job first, but after one month he was allowed to move our house. As the halfway house was in an awful neighborhood, we were much relieved. He was still under halfway house "supervision" and rules for the next five months, and paid them a percentage of his paycheck as though he were still living in their room. He had a curfew and had to have all his activities (work, classes, shopping, AA meetings, visits to Grandma's house, meals out, etc.) planned and approved ahead of time. They called him on the phone every single night to make sure he was at home -- sometimes ten minutes after curfew, often at 3:00 am or so. And he had to check in by phone each morning to see if he was required to give a urine sample that day; I think that occurred roughly once a week. The rest of the family was surprised at how difficult it was to adjust to a preplanned schedule -- no last-minute decisions to eat at the neighborhood diner or take in a movie, but Stepson thought he was in heaven: a private room, home cooking/pizza delivery, and his friends could visit him here even if he couldn't go out. We were surprised at how easily it all came together after all the confusion and difficulty of the incarceration as a whole.

tessa 06-21-2005, 12:21 AM When approved for RDAP, when during their sentence do they actually become "up" to go to RDAP( meaning what % of the sentence has to be served first)?
I realize that available space has some bearing on this as well.
Thanks in advance......
cjjack 06-21-2005, 12:55 AM You are interviewed when you have 36 months left on your sentence, and are eligible to enter the program when you have 27 months left on your sentence. Doewsn't mean you will get in right then, there are often waiting lists. Those with the closest release dates get in first.
susieq413 07-01-2005, 07:02 AM a friend of mine is in alabama. when sentenced to 24 months, he told the judge he would like to take the rdap program, and the judge allowed it. he's been in for 6 months now, and has not yet started the program, he's waiting for an opening. his lawyer told him that after he deducted the year off, plus the gtc, he would be out by september of this year, to go to a half-way house for 6 months. from my understanding from reading on this web site, the rdap program is like 9 months long isn't it? how can they forsee him getting out in september when he hasn't even started the classes yet?

cjjack 07-01-2005, 07:36 AM The lawyers dont always know. He is not guaranteed a year off. He is eligible for UP TO ONE YEAR OFF. The national average is 8-9 months. There is no way he can get out in September, sorry.
mametp1 07-05-2005, 02:38 PM What steps needs to be done in order for my fiance to come home after he has completed the in house training and find a job? He has already taken the RDAP Program, he has taken all his required training and more.
cjjack 07-05-2005, 06:09 PM He will have to participate in one year of aftercare after his release.
dougee 07-05-2005, 06:23 PM What does the one year of after-care consist of CJ?
Thanks,
Doug
mametp1 07-06-2005, 07:21 AM cj,
Does that mean he has to be there 30 days for in house orientation and then he has to abide by their rules and pay them a certain percentage of his check just like he's living there for the remaining 11mos?
bellisq 07-06-2005, 10:42 AM The average time off for the RDAP program is 8 - 9 months although a year is possible under the statute. However with a gun charge, a person is not eligible for this sentence reduction.
The BOP does not sentence anyone to more than 6 months to the halfway house. If you list the particulars of the sentence, including the date he entered the system, than someone will help you calculate the sentence.
