View Full Version : Just needing to talk
vkyshurtz 06-10-2005, 01:39 PM Will my x-husband is out of prison as of two days ago. I live in another state (MO) he is in Vallejo, CA. He calls my 800 number at work. He called today, didn't sound good, said he would be better in prison. Has no place to sleep, no clothes, can't take a bath. I don't know what to do (I can't send him money, I have just enough for me and the kids). I feel helpless. He has relatives in Vallejo but no one will help him. What can I do? I will worry all weekend about him.....Just needed to talk:(
lovespell 06-10-2005, 01:46 PM I am sorry you are having to be involved in this. He really shouldn't be calling you to tell you his sad story in my opinion, but I don't know what kind of relationship you all have either...so Only do what you can, hopefully he can get back on his feet. Of course it is going to be hard, he just got out of prison, hopefully he doesn't go back, but sometimes they do, it is just easier for them I guess, then to have to live out here in the world.
Don't worry too much, he will be o.k. He is your ex, I am sure you helped him a lot while you were both together, it's hard, but you still have your kids to take care of.
I hope things get better!
talulahpeach 06-10-2005, 01:49 PM maybe since you have internet access you can find some phone numbers for him to call and get some services. youre raising his kids with no help, so you shouldnt feel too obligated. if you just give him some resources maybe he can do it on his own without making it your problem.
1dayatatime 06-10-2005, 01:53 PM any homeless shelters in the area? Salvation Army?
vkyshurtz 06-10-2005, 02:03 PM When he called I asked, he said there are Missions, but they were all full, it is a first come basis. I really appreciate all the comments. I still feel for him, we were together 13 years, but his drugs were are major problem. I don't wish him any harm, I just don't want him to go back to prison. I know he is down, but I couldn't seem to talk to him and make him feel any better, all he had was negative.
chintath 06-10-2005, 02:15 PM I agree with others: try to find homeless shelters, churches, workforce centers, Salvation Army, nonprofits, even the local health department can refer him. I think it's a positive step that he called you instead of turning to drugs. I will keep him in my prayers that he finds a hand up.
1dayatatime 06-10-2005, 02:19 PM Some of the shelters that operate locally are first come first serve sometimes in the am and sometimes in the pm. Hes gotta find out which it is and be there in line. Most of the shelters here you have to leave each morning and return in the evening. So can you get on the net and look find out where, when and all the info ---when you talk to him again give him the scoop.
Also you may want to Pm some of the people in the California forum and they may can give you some leads.
Good luck and I understand you not wanting to turn your back on him.

Bec Marie 06-10-2005, 02:55 PM Has he seen his PO? It would seem that he is being set up to fail! I can't even imagine how frustrated you must be.
I'll see if I can find anythng and get back to you,
Bec
vkyshurtz 06-10-2005, 03:10 PM He saw his PO today, basically no help. He said he would ask his PO a ? and his PO answer would be "I don't know", "Can't help you", Sorry..They don't want to help them, they want them to go back to prison, that way they have 1 less file to deal with
Bec Marie 06-10-2005, 03:28 PM Have you contacted Friends Outside?

vkyshurtz 06-10-2005, 03:36 PM No, I hadn't, made a copy of the link, hopefully he will call and I can give him some numbers. You all have been a terrific help. Hope you all a great weekend.
1dayatatime 06-10-2005, 03:50 PM Can he get permission to stay with you til he gets on his feet if none of the above work out?

vkyshurtz 06-10-2005, 03:57 PM PO said no. He has 52 weeks of a class he has to take(which he has to pay for-with no job) and probation for 3 years and resitutation to pay. Missouri would also have to except him here if there was a possibility of a transfer which right now is a big NO....I just feel so bad for him, he has no control over his situation and I can't help.
