Posting here instead of news and events cuz i figure we'll want to have some conversation about it.
I went to the ADC website this morning to look up the # for constituent services, and they have a red banner that says "inmate scam alert" I clicked it and this is what i got.
My initial reaction is NOT positive toward ADC. You can't verify whether someone is lying to u by looking at their profile on ADC. :blah: I just don't know what to think, really.
Anyway, here it is:
Inmate Scam Alert
Some state prison inmates are currently attempting various scams to obtain funds from pen pals. Before engaging in correspondence with an incarcerated person, we urge you to check our INMATE SEARCH page to verify basic information about that inmate (race, sex, age, crime, sentence, etc.).
Some examples of recent scam activities include:
Falsifying details concerning race, age, sex, weight, crime, sentence length, sexual orientation, marital status, etc.
Falsifying release date or possibility of release, with claims of being released “as soon as court costs have been paid”; or “when restitution has been made”; or “when lawyer fees are paid”; etc.
Making false promises, such as marriage, intent to live with, etc., upon release from prison.
A majority of this information can be verified through the ADC Inmate Search. You may also contact the county of conviction or other legal authorities for verification of conviction or release information.
