What services/training/counseling can an inmate request?

Is there job skills enhancement programs?
Help dealing with emotional issues?

Help and God Bless.....

Welcome!

I am not sure how great the drs are in these facilities, what facility is he in? As far as mental health goes, most inmates are on their own unless they need meds. If they get depressed I am sure most do not trust the staff to go to with it.

as far as skills training goes....they have many programs he can take as well as also reading on his own like my husband does, or he can go to school outside as well, which does cost YOU money. http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72622

here are some programs he can ask about.

If he needs therapy, meds etc... Make sure he knows to ask for them or he may "fall between the cracks" or you can advocate for him. So far my husband has had "good" therapists, he says they are okay. The are state employees so they aren't going to be working "real hard" unless they are the exception to the rule. Just make sure you keep after him if he needs services or speak with his counselor to see they are instituted on his behalf. As I'm sure you know he has to be willing to participate in order for any therapy to be effective, otherwise he's just sitting there putting in his time with the counselor. Good Luck!

ktfs, welcome to PTO! If your husband has mental health needs it will be on him to ask for them. I do not know why they make it so hard, but they do. You can call an advocate for him with his counselor. Goog luck! :)
