Can anyone give me any information on transferring parole from Texas to another state? My boyfriend is currently on parole in Texas and we've discussed the possibility of transferring his parole to where I currently reside. Can anyone give me any info on this? Thanks for your help.

Vickie,
You need to tell him to talk with his Parole Officer. That is the 1st thing he needs to do. They will guide him from there. Make sure he does this and gets approval BEFORE he does anything, or else he will end up back in :( I wish you both the best!!

Thanks Diane for the info. I'm sure he's going to do that soon. At least I hope he does.

Thanks both Diane & Kristen for your thoughts and well wishes. We both hope his transfer will be approved and he'll be able to move so we can start our lives together here. Thanks again.

you have to talk to his parole officer...and then the paperwork has to be sent to the interstate compact commision. the laws of the interstate compact can be found at:

My husband and i are going through the same proccess...trying to get transfered from texas to iowa...
good luck to you!

Amber thanks for that info. I've been on the TDCJ website before but couldn't ever find the info that I needed. If you don't mind my asking, how long have y'all been working on your husband's transfer? I'd just like to know what kind of time frame we may be facing. Thanks again.

Tx is hard on transfers. Good luck to you and you need to start working on that now if you have not already

I hope everything works out for you. :) I know he must talk with his parole officer like someone earlier said. The interstate compact actually deals with approving the transfer. They have certain criteria that they go by such as family being in the receiving state and a decent place of residence in the receiving state. And I think they like when he has a job waiting on him to go to in the receiving state, and this is especially true if there is no family in the receiving state. I think I am right in what I am telling you. Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong about a few things. But at least you have somewhat of an idea how they go about approving a transfer. Good luck to you. I know how painstaking this process probably is to you.

My husband, Johnny, is from Georgia and we are thinking he may have to parole there to his Dad's home. Johnny says that he will be in for another 6 months if we do this do to the time it takes for all the paperwork and acceptance to clear......

we were told by a parole lawyer that if we turned in the transfer request to the parole officer for my husbands transfer, the commision had 45 days to make a decision. But if the parole officer is anything like my husbands, it could be several months before the paperwork is actually sent to the commision. The laws of the interstate compact commision, if i read them right, state that if the person transfering has family, or a job waiting, and a place to live in the state they are transfering to then the transfer can not be denied. In my husbands case, becasue my daughter and i, not to mention his grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins, live here, he has a place to live, and he has a job waiting, then the transfer can't be denied. Texas has to accept to let him transfer, and iowa has to accept him. It also states that if there are special circumstances, then the parolee can move there before the transfer is actually approved. That's what we are trying to get done.
We were told by his parole officer today that he would turn in the transfer paperwork next week...but last time he said that he would get paperwork turned in, so my husband could live with me and my daughter, it took 4 months. We just got approval from the parole board this week. The parole officer has the right though to tell you that you can't transfer, and even to not turn in the paperwork if they so choose. Parole officers in this state can do just about anything they want to the parolee. Good luck to you...i hope it works out for the best!
