I went by thier "rules", I went to our local Christian book store and picked out 2 paperback books and had them mail them to my husband, and after 2 weeks, my husband still had not gotten them, so I called the bookstore and they gave me the track# for Fed-Ex, and I looked online and tracked the package, it was delivered May 3 and signed for by CStewart (Mail Lady). So I called the prison and asked for the mail room, and spoke to Ms. Stewart and she claimed that the books were still sitting on the mail table, but she would see that my husband got them, I informed her, that he had not gotten them, and had not gotten a "mail refusal slip" either, she said she didnt know why he hadnt gotten them yet. Well, now its over a week later and he still doesnt have the books, what should I do now? This is a federal Offense messing with anothers mail, but what can I do really?
Any suggestions? These books were not cheap and with my hubby being gone and my daughter with her health issues, we dont have the extra money to "throw out the window".
PLEASE HELP!! ( This is at Bibb County Corrections)

My hubby says that Bibb is one of the worse prisons...he wouldnt have it as a dog pound...and as far as him trying to get anything done, its hopeless...it took him a year to get an appointment with the "Dentist" sheeesh a wisdom tooth had cracked the tooth next to it when it came in and the nerves were exposed...this was diagnosed at Kilby too...he just got it pulled last wednesday. Ok, Im gonna call the Warden...I'll let ya know what happens...the mail people are probably reading his books. GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr!

When Joey was at Ventress, they would not give him his books that the title had not been turned in and approval was given for.....Do you have to get the title approved at Bibb first?

yeah I was just thinking at Limestone the books title has to be approved too, and sent to the chaplin there (at least thats how I had to do Mikes stuff at LImestone) maybe that could be the hold up. Best of luck

I called and talked to Mr. Estes...Deputy Warden..he says he will look into the problem and put the books in the mail bin.
Yea, I bet, we shall see... I will give it another week.
As far as I know there is no "approval list" at Bibb you just have to have the books sent from the book store or publisher, and they have to be paperback, and of course "decent and non crime related". One of the books was "Chicken Soup for a Prisoner's Soul" The other was a christian mystery I cant remember the title. But it wasnt anything harmful or anything that could be misconstrud....well, at least not in my mind, but then again Im not in the prison system....uuuugggggghhhh, I hate this life...any comforting suggestions on how to better cope with being an inmates wife? :( I get sooooo frustrated sometimes!

Mr. Estes! Call him Mr. Testes by "accident" next time if the books don't get to your man.. See if that would wake him up any! ;)

hehehe...they are so funny sometimes...I have been doing body switches for fun...and I sent Joey one I had done with a Star Wars theme....they wouldn't let him have it because of the light saber and space gun the charactors were holding.....it violated gun control!!!

Well girls, my hubby called tonight and told me he got his books yesterday afternoon. Mr Estes called him to some room and gave them to him... He said he was so scared, he didnt know what he had done. LOL...then when he handed him the books, he knew I had called and talked to him. So...finally something good happened. But still has me worried, why he didnt get them sooner? There was no approved list. I think the mail room was reading them actually. O well, my hubby has them now! Thanks everyone.

When the prison staff knows there are family members out there who will call or write and back up the inmate, they tend to give that inmate better service - some times. The next time something like that happens, not only call, but write a letter (keeping a copy for yourself) and send it cert. mail, return receipt requested - so you have proof of your inquiry. FYI: If you ever have to call there again, be sure to tell your husband what you plan to do when he calls - so then when a staff members calls him into the office, he will know what it's for.....

One person just suggested being sarcastic and calling the warden by some other name. NEVER do that if you want them to help you. Mispronouncing a name or being disrespectful will not help matters at all. Never accuse anyone of any thing either. Simply say that you sent your husband two books several weeks ago and he hasn't received them and the store says they were not returned - and ask if someone will please find out what happened to those books. You'll get results if you approach it in the right way. I've done it several times.

Trust me... he has got it good compared to Easterling. Just about any Alabama inmate will agree... among other things I've heard it called "the twilight zone prison of the ADOC". If he doesn't know about it, tell him to ask around... he'll feel lucky and fortunate to be where he is after that.

Lys,
Who, yes, is dealing with the nightmare that is having someone stuck at Easterling without much hope of transfer.... :(

i would have to agree with lyn on that, Kenny spent a few weeks a easterling but thank god he got transfered because there are two men that that he had a RUN IN with years ago and in his jacket it said that he was not to be in the same prison as them...the warden told him that he would stay there and she was going to transfer the other two and keep him in protective custody for 2 weeks then finally they came and moved him...that was a nightmare..for all of us..
