Anyone here know anything about this prison such as the good and bad about it? Where is it located, visiting info, etc.... I was looking under the prison profiles, but I didn't see anything about this prison; unless I didn't look good enough. Any info you can provide would be cool with me! :)
Thanks gang!!

Beaumont is in Texas. You may find info about it in the Texas thread under U.S. REGIONAL/JURISDICTIONAL FORUMS near the bottom.

Pookie, it is a ruff place. Amir was there two years. I am not sure what you are wanting to know or I would tell more.

Thanks Flygirl. I really hate hearing that it is a rough place!! I thought federal prisons were not that bad in comparison to state prisons in Texas. But USP Beaumont is a max prison, so I guess the inmates there are on the wild side.

The USP at Beaumont is rougher than a great many state joints from what all I can tell. I have heard the stories and watched the ambulances leave there on a weekly basis. I've seen some real tuff guys come from that place that have done stretches in the state (I was at the Medium across the street) and start to breathe for the first time since getting to Beaumont. They say it is straight tension in that joint. You can hear them shooting over there form the towers quite often when someone gets picked or a fight breaks out.
When USP Beaumont opened, they moved a lot of the trouble makers at the other USP's (Marion, Terre Huet, Atlanta, etc) there. It may have mellowed out since I was released but it was know to be the bloodiest USP in the system then, taking over from Atlanta.
I'm sure I posted about it here before. I'll take a look with the search engine. (Always the best bet in finding information on a prison that may burried.

I got a bunch of good results. Go up and click on "Search" and then type in:
"USP Beaumont" in the Search By Keyword Box.

Pookie,
I guess I didn't answer much in my last two posts.
Beaumont is about an hour and a half drive out of Houston, Texas going East on Interstate 10. Probably about 30 minutes from the Louisiana border.
The USP is part of a complex of federal prisons. It is composed of a admin building, Camp, Low security, Medium Security and the USP.
They have decent visits over there from all I have heard. They are all contact I believe.
What's bad about it? I covered that above.. What's good about it? They have air conditioning, cable TV and it is fairly new, though it is a brick city with lots of CO's and shotguns.

Federal prisons are usually cadillac in comparisson to state until you reach the medium level. Medium can be cool but can also go off.. The USP is a huge leap up after that with rules, protocals, and discipline. In the feds, life means toe tagging out. You got a lot of guys that don't care at all.

David, I really really appreciate all the info!! :)
But I must admit, I really hate that it is real bad there. I also heard that it was one of the roughest places in the feds. I also heard that they have a lot of stabbings there because of fights being kept to a minimum!! Someone just got killed a couple weeks ago I heard. I am glad to know that their visits are at least on the up and up. There are a lot of inmates doing life sentences there, so you know they don't care what kind of trouble they get in because they aren't going anywhere anyways. It just doesn't make sense to put someone with only a few years left with violent inmates doing life!! And me saying that is of no disrespect to those here with loved ones in that prison doing life. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks again David for the info.

I agree that people who tend to "go off" ought to be kept with people who tend to "go off" and that they should be helped to learn new behaviors, but wait that would be called "rehabilitation," and I don't think that exists in practice. But I also know you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make 'em drink.

In about 2 weeks from now....someone will be released from USP Beaumont.

I have invited him to come here to PTO....and give us some insight! I am sure he will have plenty to share...we just have to work with him on getting use to using a computer!
