MEXICO CITY, May 22 (Reuters) - Four people were killed in a shootout between police and suspected drug hit men in northern Mexico, and gunmen killed a police chief in a hail of bullets outside his home in a separate incident, authorities said on Sunday.
Three suspected drug traffickers and a policemen were killed on Saturday in the shootout in the border city of Reynosa, across the Rio Grande from McAllen, Texas.
Separately, suspected drug cartel assassins shot dozens of bullets at the car of local police chief Carlos Bowser in the town of Rosarito, some 25 miles (40 km) from the California border. Bowser died in Saturday's attack.
Around 485 people have been killed in drug-related violence in Mexico so far this year, many of them in a war between rival cartels fighting for control of the trade in cocaine, marijuana and amphetamines to the United States.
