I'm seeking information on Hep C treatment in the federal prisons. I'd like to know what's available and how the BOP normally handles inmates with Hep C. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Karen

View Full Version : HepC Treatment in Federal Prisons - Need Information ladyconvict 04-05-2003, 11:07 AM I'm seeking information on Hep C treatment in the federal prisons. I'd like to know what's available and how the BOP normally handles inmates with Hep C. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Karen drwilson007 04-14-2003, 10:15 PM I don't know all that much about the system. I'm on here trying to find some stuff also. My friend is also in prison, has been for 22 1/2 yrs. and just got Hep. C. He had to have surgery due to try a have a cancerous tumor on his Pancreas removed. They gave him blood several times, them he shows up with it, after testing neg. several times before the surgery. And now they don't seemed worried about it and aren't treating him. He doesn't know that much about it, so I'm doing some research on it so I can send him some info. on it. The prison system don't care they will let him sit in there and die. He's already serving a life sentence anyway. We are praying that he will get his parole this Oct. 2003 so he will get treated. He was supposed to start Radiation last week for the Cancer, but I haven't talked to him this week. He had surgery the second week of March, so I don't know what their hold up is. But if you click on the first subject. "Welcome to the Hepatitis C Family" you will find alot of very good information. Good luck, and I hope you get what you are looking for. :argh lulu 04-15-2003, 11:31 AM I need this info myself. I have a friend that just wrote me and said he has both hep c and b and they stop his treatment and he has been sick. I thought someone on here was or has a group that deals with medical avocates? If they are here please let me know. If not, I will have to look for something myself. drwilson007 04-15-2003, 01:19 PM lulu You need to talk to Menolly, she can give you lots of info. Also she has something where she is taking peoples name, prison, and other information that isn't getting treatment for Hepatitis. If you click on the "Welcome to the Hep. C Family", and read the first one that is from Menolly, it has a big colomn that has all that info. wanting the persons information. I have found alot more useful info. on here than I have anywhere else. I hope I explained it good enough for you to find it. Good luck. Hope your friend gets his treatments and gets better. :) drwilson007 04-15-2003, 01:25 PM lulu by the way, you might want to either copy some of the info. down and send to your friend or print it out and sent it him. you know in prison they aren't going to educate them about it because then they know they will have to treat them. as long as they have them thinking they aren't all that sick they have them where they have them. i have already started copying stuff for my friend because he thinks his is fine and they have a CURE foe it. its not that he is stupid, he been is for so long and doesnt know anything about it. lulu 04-15-2003, 02:24 PM Thank you so very much drwilson007 04-15-2003, 10:59 PM lulu, you are very welcome. i hope you found what you we're looking for. if so, i'm glad i was able to help you. good luck. hope everyone has a Happy Easter. :) Kireina3 07-02-2003, 01:25 PM Hi Karen, I'm replying to your post. You requested information in regard to Federal Guidelines in the treatment and management of hepatitis C. Please go to www.hcvinprison.org and you will find the new updated Federal guidelines. If you would like to check out the rest of the site, we have very good listservs that will keep you updated on hepatitis C class action lawsuits and also talk directly with Dr. Ben Cecil (HCV Forum with Dr.Ben Cecil) who is an advocate of prioners rights and helped prisoner Michael Paulley in Kentucky win the first Federal lawsuit for treatment of HCV.
