Gee...I hope that response wasn't toooo scary for ya!! :slap:

I don't either, though and don't think there will be many here that do...but I hope you will find what you need anyway!! Perhaps someone will come along for you soon...

BUT in the meantime, let us know if we can help you out, or, if you need someone to talk to, we're all ears!! :grouphug:

My fiance is at EOCI doesn't seem that bad for visits, to me as long as we can see each other no complaints here. I usually go up at the spur of the moment it takes me about 5 1/2 - 6 hrs. This weekend I'm going just for the day, up and back, it seems to be okay.. Just gotta go with the flow and keep our faith.. He's a lifer so he has to stay outa trouble...

My Ben first went to EOCI in 1998. He was out for a short time in 2003, but now is back (again at EOCI) until June 2007. Although it's the only prison he's been in, he says it's not that bed.

Anyone know anything about their college program?

RedRidingHood

Yes, he will get good time. He'll be eligible for programs in June 2010.

I suppose everybody in here is from Cali or Oregon? I am in Canada, chances of me car pooling with someone are probably slim to none, and slim just walked out the door. LOL. Can anybody tell me the closest place to fly into and some names of some hotels close to the prison? Anything I need to know for the visiting room? Thanks guys! Peace.

Hey girl! My fiance is at EOCI...he said it's really not that bad there, I have visited him a few times, and although I don't like the set up, we can't be picky;). If anyone is intersted in carpooling let me know...I go up at least once a month but if I could find someone to split the cost I would love to go more often...:D Keep me posted!

The map shows a little airport in Pendleton but it looks like the closest larger town is Walla Walla, Washington. The closest large airport is Portland, Oregon. Either place, you'd have to rent a car and drive from there. Zelda

Well I know that things are different for males and females, but I was there at eoci for 3 1/2 years, and hated it until i got stuck at coffee creek. Every place has its pros and cons, but it is better than TRCI from what i have heard, and the multi-purpose center is cool, b-ball, raquetball etc.

Hello,

Mine is at Pendleton also. He has been there for almost a year and has 2 more to go.He doesnt mention much about what goes on there...guess he doesnt want me to worry.(too late for that...silly man!!) anyways I am working on the cell phone thing...or trying to work on it. seems like the cell phone companys are not really much help. I cant seem to get a straight answer our of any of the companies that have coverage in his area and my area ( N. Cal.). It would be sooo easy if I could get Vondage here...

Anyone have any info please send me a message.
He says he is hopefully going to be able to go to the "fire Camp" in a month or so. He is very doesnt want to get his hopes up though...

My son is at EOCI and thety did make an example of him on a measure 11, He is barely 17 years old and he will not be released until 2013. All for stealing a cd player and a beanie hat....This year the House bill 2880 did not make it, but lets all vote for it nexy year. I t will cut measure 11 cases time in half, unless you are in for sex crimes and or murder. The visiting was okay there, and my son is doing everything he can like school, work, and working out, He says it is not like we think, he says it is all politics and if you do no not get involved with it and you find other ways to not be bored you are doing alright. Just remember keep faith and send lots of letters and visits to your loved ones and make sure they keep confidence in thereselves.

Go to the thread "telephone information for Oregon prisons" - you basically need to set up a VAC account, the information is there on how to do it. To make your rates cheaper, get a local cell phone number in the area where your son is incarcerated. The call will then cost you $1.75 which you prepay for by setting up a VAC account. He then puts in a slip to request your phone number be put on his pin number and you will be all set to do cheaper calls.

I have a friend who just finished a federal sentence and now has an Oregon sentence to complete. He's at EOCI but stuck in the prison hospital cause of xrays when he came in - had a CT scan and waiting for more tests to see if he might have cancer. That sucks. So I don't have any information about the prison or visiting cause they quarantined him for the first 2 months thinking he might have had TB (which tests now show he doesn't). Anybody know, when they're in the hospital, if they get any yard time? He hasn't yet. Z.

My man went from Coffee Creek to EOCI, to Powder River and now SRCI. It's like a game with them. I keep hearing he's been transfered and I keep PRAYING they will say OSCI. Shoot! I'd be happy w/OSP at this point. At least I could see him.
But, EOCI from what he told me was better than Powder River which is supposed to be a "alternative incarceration". He didn't ask to be in the "program" and they were trying to FORCE him into it. When he opted out they sent him further away. I'm pretty familiar w/EOCI since I talked to him on the phone almost everyday when he was there. His counselor was Ms. Large and she talked w/me. She even faxed over the phone request to the phone specialist for me so that he didn't have to wait the 2wks for it to process. From all the places he has been and the counselors he has had, SHE actually acted like she "cared". He said the guards were pretty cool there and although he didn't get "involved" w/any "groups" he did connect with a lot of other inmates that were friendly and treated him w/respect. He's now at Snake River and his words were "Baby, this place is quite the adventure!" He sounded bad and I will be thankful when he is OUT of there! So, EOCI is a walk in the park compared to some of the others from what my man has experienced. I'll be prayin for you.
Peace...

I can relate to the measure 11 thing. My fiance had a "no tolerance" probation and is doing time at SRCI for missing an appt w/his po. Blows my mind that people can brutally kill people and get away with it with little time and my man is doing 2yrs over a missed appt. By the way..he had a jury trial for a Burg1 and the jury dead-locked w/one person saying "guilty" and the rest with a "not-guilty" verdict. They did a plea bargain and that was probation. He was working, tried to contact her to reschedule, she didn't return calls. He didn't want to lose this job he had just gotten since THAT was also part of his conditions. So, he left a msg. 3 days later a warrant was issued for his arrest. So much for the justice system huh?

Inmates cannot make calls to cell phones AT ALL in the Oregon Dept of Corrections. I went thru heck with this since when he first went in he was calling my cell from Coffee Creek. What they DON'T tell you is that they are allowed to call cells for a short time while they are being processed at Coffee Creek. After that, they cut it off. I have a VAC acct and the calls were $5 for 20min until he was transfered to Snake River which is in Ontario and 1hr different time zone and AT&T as a provider vs. Qwest. The calls now are $20 for 20min. I'd say if you are talking very much $300 dollars a mo is sounding like a pretty good darn deal to me! I have Comcast Digital Cable as my home phone provider and they do NOT allow any collect calls from correctional institutions. I'm STILL trying to find a way around the VAC system so that I can talk to him without paying a dollar a minute! If anyone knows how I'd LOVE to find out!!

I found out that if you are on the visiting list and are traveling across state OR out of state to visit your loved one you are given what is called "special visiting privledges". Dang it! I was hoping for the ones where you get locked in a room for a few hrs!! lol NOT! Those are NOT allowed in Oregon. What I DID find out was that it means they don't have to use their point system and if you are there for the 2 or 3 days that they can have visits in that week you can go to each and every one of those visits. Usually you can only see them ONE visit, ONCE a wk. But, if you have to travel to see them you get to get all the visits! Good thing...IF you have a way to get there. :(

"Fire-Camp"??? What is that? I've heard of Sutter Creek Boot Camp and Powder River Alternative Incarceration. But, haven't heard of Fire Camp. I hope he didn't go to Powder River. My fiance' ended up opting out of that program. He's black and there was AWFUL racism w/in the system by the guards. Baker City is a little town w/ the majority (I'd say 99%) being white. Not a good place for a man that ISN'T white.

I realize you can get a pre-paid cell phone w/ an Ontario phone # on it therefore it won't be $25 a call! (I know, I put $50 on VAC and he called me and we talked twice and the money was GONE!). But, you also have to buy pre-paid cards to put on the pre-paid phone for the minutes you want. Those aren't cheap. So, you'd still be paying a LOT. Does someone know of another way???? I just got a cell phone, just to be able to have one since I have no car and have to take the bus or walk everywhere. This has really screwed us over financially! But, it's a T-mobile phone w/ a Salem # on it. So, that'd be no different than if he called our home phone. I know that when I first met him and he was on probation, he had a "Virgin Mobile" pre-paid and we were talking and texting and he was constantly having to buy $50 pre-paid cards because he was running out of minutes. Are there ones that if you call at a certain time it's free? I'm thinking, it'd be a LITTLE cheaper than $25 a call. But, in the long run, you'd still be payin out the..... if you know what I mean.
They make it SO dang difficult for you to see each other and to communicate it's like they want to seclude them from EVERYONE! I thought of a new quote tonite... "Prisons..turning normal people into Criminals one person at a time"

If you have a loved one in and Oregon prison, you can get a phone number from Qwest for any town in Oregon, even if you don't live here. Qwest will charge you for a basic home phone, about $15/month, then forward it to your home/cell phone from their headquarters. No kidding! I know women all over the west that do this, Then set up their VAC account, and viola! $1.75/half an hour!

Also, I only have a cell phone and have been receiving phone calls from Oregon prisons for six years! for $1.75/half hour.
Families all over the country can do this with Qwest!!

I know my phone calls from my brother more than four folded when he went to SRCI. At EOCI, i could afford for him to call me, the calls were less than $5. a call. At Snake River, the calls are in excess of $20. a call. If I remember correctly, they are over $30. a piece. I don't pay attention because it makes me mad, I just only let my brother call once a month. They also have an e-mail system for inmates and families at SRCI. But as far as visiting, none of the joints have I been treated as nice as when he was in OSP. EOCI, he wasn't fond of, but I liked it better than OSCI for visiting at. And, now, I won't even waste the money to drive to SRCI for another visit. Two trips last summer and never got to see him. I can't afford that, and won't try it again.

From an Oregon facility, through a Qwest phone number, that's been forwarded to any state in the country ~ VAC is still $1.75 for half an hour from and DOC Oregon facility ~

I have a brother that just got moved to EOCI on 6/26/08. I've heard from him once and can't wait to go visit. I'm not sure if our names are on the visitors list yet. Don't know how long that takes to take affect. Can anyone here tell me about how far from the entrance the actual visiting room is and if there are stairs? I have a mother who has problems walking long distances with a walker or cane.

Hate This, sorry for taking so long to answer your post. It has been years since I visited at EOCI. The parking is quite aways from the entrance, but you would be able to let your mother off closer, then go park the car. If memory serves correctly, I think there is a few steps at the entrance. I can't remember for sure. There may even be handicapped parking close to the front of the building. Have a nice visit. I would recommend calling EOCI and asking about handicapped parking, and your other questions. Also, you could write your brother and find out if you have made it to the visiting list yet. That is their responsibility to let you know if you have been approved, so I hear.

I have a mother who has problems walking long distances with a walker or cane. It's been 8 years since I've been there, but since that building has been there a long time, I doubt it has changed. It's wheelchair accessable. It is not a very long walking distance from where you can drop her off at the front of the building to the lobby where she is able to sit down. You could wait in line while she sits and then can come up when you get to the front to check in.It's one of the few prisons that has an indoor waiting area with seats. Have a great visit.
